Just got my AtPro and................

I think you could attach a magnifying piece of glass/plastic, a lens of sort over the VDI screen... at least I think you should be able to. A software tweak to change the screen to display only the numbers on the screen shouldn't be a problem for the Ver 1.2

As time goes along and we get into next season someone who has an "in" with Garrett should compile a list of user suggestions for Garrett to consider.

Maybe they will listen. I'd say from the design of this detector that they are listening to users and want to make what users want.

Here here JBOW, I agree with what you say. Sounds like some want to bury it before it's dead! Looks like Garrett has did it again. First they built a low end detector (Ace 250) that works as well as most mid range detectors costing twice to three times as much, and now they've built a mid range detector (AT Pro) that will most likely equal a lot of high end detectors. Time will tell. Seems Garrett knows how to build a lot of detector for a more affordable price! Which make me happy, cause I can't go plunk down $1000 to $1500 for a detector.

E-TRAC is good at unmasking,
Julien

It is interesting how different people have different perceptions when it comes down to the performance capabilities of different detectors.

I have owned my E-Trac for a good 12 months now and the one outstanding fact about that period is I have never dug iron with it, I have to admit I was pretty pleased about that until that is I did some back to back machine testing with silver and iron in close proximity, and I would add that I run my E-Trac wide open in disc with 2 tone ferrous for the fastest reaction time I can muster.

I guess the linchpin of opinion in this area would be the individuals perception of the word "masking" and there may be some varying allowances even if it was agreed upon exactly what that term described so with that qualifier I would say personally I would not describe the E-Trac good at unmasking, but that is just me.

What I can also say is that the AT not only outperforms the E-Trac in those tests but is equal to the best I have seen so far

What problems?

E-TRAC will not unmask targets in iron very well unless you use a little disc. The programming is set to ignore (no signal) disced out targets and signal on co-located, accepted metals... so if you run with no disc the iron will continue to mask good targets... it isn't like the Exp.

Apologies to the Garrett forum, I don't mean to discuss other machines as better or in comparison to the AT or any other Garrett and I fully intend to try an AT in the spring... I jus thought this post needed to be answered. If you have a question about the ET and unmasking, send me a PM.

From what I hear the AT is doing really well at finding relics in iron too... I have just the place to try it!!

I seem to remember early on that being waterproof was such a huge deal. The connectors that they used are a part of that package. It would have been much cheaper for them to install a 1/4 audio jack for head phones and would have been extremely easy to use..... .but then the water proof thing that everyone seemed to want would be out the window.

It is what it is.
