Just bought an original sovereign

When it is a surface or loud target I will pinpoint like Bottlebum does, but if it is deeper I will switch to all metal pinpoint and go side to side with the coil and get the loudest response. Now I will push the coil tot he ground so it dont move off that spot and turn 90 degrees and swing the coil again side to side and when it gets the loudest signal my target will be right in the very center of the coil. I also do this with the deep iffy signals as once I have to pinpointed right on I will hold the coil still and switch it back to disc and wiggle the coil so slightly and if it is iron it will null out while and good target the tones will try to climb if you pinpointed it correctly. I notice on the GT I see it seems to null right away, but moving a little more will start the tones climbing of a good target will.

Good advanced tip Rick. I should have thought about that one too because I recently used that method to pull a silver, Roosie dime that was about seven to eight inches deep and almost on edge, from the ground. The signal started out as a broken, iffy signal but by the time I had pinpointed it with the method you described, there was no question that it was a good signal worthy of digging.

Thanks guys for the pinpointing info, went back to that site today and dug the machine gun signal it was scattered foil, looked like it came from someone that had barbuqued in that spot sometime back. Anyway I picked up an 8" original coil today from David at Dixie Detectors, I believe these were the original coils that came with my detector. Best find of the day was an Olympic token from 1998 Nagano winter games. My son found it with my Tesoro Vaquero with the 7"X3" elliptical coil.

Now I understand!!!!!!
I got into a penny spill one time. It's multiple targets of the same kind at just the right speed and spacing.

Right, and with foil, it gives a little softer tone. I can imagine a gold necklace sounding kind of the same.

Congratulations to your son for finding the token and to you for purchasing an excellant coil. Just remember that it's not waterproof.
HH, bottlebum
