Just a question cause I am bored

I did not get out much last weekend,Saturday was sloppy wet, Sunday I found the #4 sleigh bell, but the area I was in was so over grown I could barely move and it was drivin' me crazy. Every day I say I am going out after work but by the end of the day I am draggin and just have not been up to it. mostly its the heat. Anyway, while I am being a sis about gettin' out there I thought I would ask aquestion or two. I have the ace250 my first detector. I have about 25 hours on it. been using the sniper coil. The deepest I have dug for a coin has been about 4 inches so far ( I am sure I am missing targets cause I am still getting used to the detector and detecting) any of you that use the ace 250 or 150 with the sniper coil what is the deepest you have dug for a coin? All the guys and gals with other detectors, what is the deepest you have found a coin! I have found flattened soda cans at close to eight inches:ranting:. they always show up as a dime. I have learned to size an object and don't dig to many of those cans anymore but I was wondering, if the target is a gold, silver or any other kind of chain and it is stretched out as opposed to being in a ball or close in on its self, how will that show? is it possible that I could pass up a target thinking its a can when it actually might be a chain? Uncle willy I am havin' A hard time doin' the creep and sweep with the sniper coil. I always end up tellin myself that I will be searching this area for a long time to come and what I miss today I'll find the next time. Blade310

In my soil I can run the sensitivity maxed out with the Sniper coil. It's nothing to dig a coin 6 inches plus deep. The only time I reduce the sens is around metal poles and such. Or very trashy sites. Try cranking up the sens. If it's doesn't false then your good to go. Keep your coil low and overlap by 50%. You will feel like your not covering the ground. But you better believe you won't miss anything either! I open up my iron notch so I can hear the trash next to good targets in any disc mode.

I've been using my Ace250 for about 5 months now and I dont think I've ever dug a coin deeper than about 5 inches. Deeper than that is always a can, or scrap iron or some such thing. A can at 7 or 8 inches will ring up as a quarter or sometimes a dime. 8 out of 10 nickle targets turn out to be a pull tab. I'm not convinced that the ace is very accurate on identifying targets but I guess evrybody has to dig a million pull tabs in their life time.

Chains are difficult to detect with any coil no matter what position the chain is in because the coil only sees one link at a time - not the whole chain. The Sniper is good for about seven inches in depth on coin-sized objects - more on bigger stuff.. You can usually tell if it's a can by raising the coil up 7 or 8 inches. If you still get a signal chances are it ain't a coin. Creep and sweep takes a lot of patience but pays off. It's a little harder with the sniper as it covers such a small area and you have to cover twice as much ground but it won't miss much. Scanning in a tight figure eight with the sniper works pretty good and doesn't miss much real estate. When you use creep & sweep use straight scans instead of arced scans, that way you have more control over the area you cover and you can overlap more accurately.

If you have really good hearing you can tell a tab from a nickle as the tab has a sharper signal as opposed to a somewhat softer signal on a nickel.

Bill..

Well, I got bored with the creep and sweep thing and one day took the Ace like a golf club and swung it as hard and fast as I could over the target and the dang sound got louder, or at least was just as clear! Well, now at my tot lots and schools, you can call me the "Flying Ace" 'cause I don't creep with that puck any longer. Now you have to take a few sweeps to overlap slightly THEN take a tiny step forward instead of just walking normally, but once you get used to it it looks like you're tiptoeing thru the tulips with a weed whacker. And the little bugar still hits hard. FLYING ACE-OVER AND OUT.

Slingshot....that was Great! LOL! And Blade 310 I just got a sniper for my Ace 250, soon as it cools off a bit I'm gonna go over to the tot lot and try her out. Will let y'all know something later..I'm not sure if I'm cut out for creep and sweep either but am gonna try!

Thanks for all the responses. I am always learning from this forum. Joe I look forward to hearing about how things go with your sniper coil. Kenny I am going to play around a little more with the sensitivity, Thanks for your input. Slingshot ( flying Ace) thanks buddy. I see I have a lot of different things to try and experiment with before I master my detecting. Bill I am sure your right about the creep and sweep paying off. I am going to try it again in the morning .I got my head phones yesterday and my Garrett pro pointer today I can hardly wait to get out there. On the nickel notch, I always dig that signal but oddly enough, out of the 170 some coins I have dug, only two of them have been nickels. I am starting to think the people here in central Ohio are very tight with there nickels.lol Thanks again everyone.

Allright Blade310, I tried out my new toy this mornin'...(sniper) the little rascal works fine...great for tight spaces etc.. seems to work around metal such as angle iron without dingin' your head off, around some pipe it sounds off more but I'm pretty happy with it..you can get pretty close to these objects...I found several coins with it..all about 2 to 4 inches.. It's gonna take some gettin' used to tho! Small and slow!!! Maybe it will help me learn more patience!:crazy:HH to ya!

I took mine out again this morning. found nothing worth bragging about, couple dz clad coins. your right I can run the sniper coil right up along a fence line and not have a problem, around aluminum bleachers, not a problem. As of yesterday I have had my ace250 a month and have used the sniper coil a month. tried the stock coil a few times but because of pinpointing issues have always gone back to the sniper. I got my pro pointer yesterday so now its time to give the stock coil a month. I'll learn to pinpoint with it with the help of the pro pointer. Glad your happy with your new coil. Blade310

Hay Blade, You'll love your Pro Pointer...I do mine..don't leave home without it!! Take care and HH to ya!
