Jail time for U.K. hunters who didn’t declare their finds

They are British nationals/citizens, they know the laws (or should!), no sympathy from me!!

The big problem is the evaluation committee GREATLY under values anything the museums want to buy. I had 2 items that they wanted to buy.
One was a 1258 french coin that was turned into a brooch. They wouldnt budge off of 25 pounds that I had to split with the farmer. Coin alone was worth at least 300 pounds. The treasure scheme is a complete ripoff for the finders 'The Crown has more money than they know what to do with. Yet they legally steal money and items from poor metal detectorist. You cant fight city hall or in this case ROYAL Hall.

The big problem with hunting in England is you dont want to find anything too good. I dont have a problem selling anything deemed historical but lets be fair about the evaluation. Museums are just looking to get something for nothing !!!

+1 on that. I don't live there but I do read the news. Seems lately the have had quite a bit "go missing" from the enormous back log of "seized" and purchased items that have been ill gotten from metal detectorists. Don't seem to be a real fair system to me. If you find it, on a land owners property, it should "only" be between You and the Landowner!! Just my two cents.
