It's kind of funny that you get some whiners who don't know the new machine yet talking about how much better the machine they know is...

The CTX has been out a month or so and there's really no one out there who's hunted with it 6 months yet in its final design and you see some former experts crying... If you 're that good with what you have, stick to it and leave the undiscovered country to the guys who learn the CTX as well as you learned whatever you learned and then let's have the discussion again in another 6 months. I'll bet we'll see some real crying then... :D

I was just reading along here tonight and thought I'd comment on what I read since I can...

I read some of that too, Gary. What I find amuzing is when someone reminds us how it takes "experience" with a detector before you fully understand it's functionality. But they'll give us "examples" of how a detector that so-and-so has been using for years is finding coins that were supposedly missed by a detector that has only been out for a couple months. So much for the relevance of "experience"! Honestly, I don't know who they are trying to convince.....the people who visit this forum and are making an honest effort to learn the new functionality of the CTX 3030? Or those who, for whatever reason, lack the ability to learn or benefit from the new functionality, and need "permission" to go back to the "old reliable"? It seems rather odd that the only time some of these folks post here is when they really have nothing worthwhile to say. JMHO HH Randy

:chase: Yeah crow tastes gooood...

All said is very true. My experience with the CTX 3030 has been a good one. I own an E-Trac an Excallibur II and a Safari along with a couple of more fine detectors that do what they were designed to do and do it well but continue to make some really nice finds with the CTX that amazes me how the other machines missed. The ones that have a CTX know what I am talking about. Most of the nay sayers have not used one but hopefully as we get to know this machine better with time and discover more and more of the 3030s capabilities we can share with friends and they too can see what Minelab has to offer in this fine hobby. HH :minelab:

I got to use a CTX for a week and while I did not make any great finds with it, and in fact I MAY have done better with my E-Trac which I know much better, it could not possibly be the fault of the machine just in the user. We all have seen people that do great with their "outdated" :heh: machines because they know them so well. A better tool is only better when you know how to use it. I did not judge the CTX on my one week of use, I judge it on what I could do better with it even with limited knowledge, for me I could see the better seperation, better enough that at some point I will go to the CTX when I can afford to.

I have well over a hundred hours on my CTX3030, but I learn something new every time out. Those blips and burbles in the earphones that made no sense when I started now sound like alarm bells and grab my attention, even though I may not be able to identify exactly what in a signal says, "Dig me!" It takes time, an appreciation of ground conditions, and, even more than technical knowledge, a "sense" about the machine to get the most out of it. Some. obviously, will never achieve rapport with their CTX3030s. For those of us who do, however, the 3030 seems like nothing short of an enthusiastic companion eager for the next pass over the ground..

I don't understand the bashers, do they get some kind of commission for everyone they convert to their choice of detector?

I was swinging it a few days ago in the 102-degree heat while trying to hold a large McD's iced tea. Really Minelab? You couldn't install a fan and cup holder?? I guess I will just have to be satisfied with the amazing performance of this machine that I have experienced over the past two months.

Should have ordered the deluxe model!

Looks good heard on the newest model the cup holder was moved to the back by the battery for better balance.

Yes, it is sad but some people just get on here with no intentions of helping or asking questions to learn they get on here with nothing but unfounded attacks. I personally, love the drive byes I laugh at these the most. I feel others just take pot shots out of jealousy cause they cannot get the best that is out there. I am with Randy most of us on here are truly trying to learn and help each other get the best performance and maximum result out of the CTX. Many of you have helped me alot and for that;I thank you. I do want to know where to order the " mod kit" with fan and cup holder package LOL

Better balance? Aw come-on Jason. Word has it that balance is not important. This beast weighs over 5 pounds without the fan or cup holder. Far too much for an average person to even consider using!

I would say its the opposite on this forum. Negative comments and opinions are HIGHLY discouraged. Saying anything against the 3030 around here is like kicking the guys dog or slapping his moma. I see alot of it as an ego trip...look at me I have the most expensive, newest detector...and its the best detector ever. Yes, it is a great machine, but it is not the best in every senario...no detector is, thats why most of us have an arsenal of different detectors. One of my biggest gripes is the display, the machine is giving you great information but in the bright sunlight good luck seeing it. Does anyone know if they could build a Contrast adjustment into a firmware update...that would be a great fix if possible.

I've noticed this on-going trend lately too. As a former ETRAC user I can attest to how awesome it was. I loved hunting with it. Now, as a current CTX user, I can say that it's a better equipped machine and is better at finding those deeper coins. As soon as you say this current ETRAC users get offended and all huffy and puffy and say that you either don't know your machine, or it's all in your head. Look, I know a lot of this hobby is getting the coil over a target, but at depth in trashy soil the CTX outperforms the ETRAC. This statement is based on experience with both in the same location. I don't have to write a book to have any credibility with making a statement based on field tests and performance. The reality is, at least in my own situation, is that it's the best MD on the market right now and has proven itself on every hunt. .02

I had the same problem with the display but I turned up the backlight and it is very readable in all light conditions now.

I had my backlight on 4 and turned it up to 6 as per another user's suggestion and can see the display even better. Also, I have not noticed any additional battery drain from the backlight.

Really?

In the last few days there has been a post about interference issues that turned out to be a connector issue. Was that person attacked? No. Was the post deleted or edited in any fashion? No. Was the person banned? No. People here offered help as best they could.

There was also a post about a water leak into the battery compartment. Was that person attacked? No. Was the OP's post deleted or edited in any fashion? No. Was the person banned? No. People here offered help as best they could.

There have been a couple of instances recently of Sponsoring Dealers stepping up to replace units for customers that aren't even their customers. When these users reported problems on this forum; Was that person attacked? No. Was the post deleted or edited in any fashion? No. Was the person banned? No. People here offered help as best they could and Sponsors/Dealers tried to make the end user happy.

I think negative posts are looked down upon for their lack of relevance and ignorance alone. If someone has a complaint or has an issue as BB said they have been helped as long as they were not being ignorant about it. For myself, I have no complaints.......the detector works as if not better than described. With that said I have used it in the water and had no issues. I just played with the setting until it was quiet. I did not expect it to be an Excalibur or perform better than an Excalibur. That would be ignorant on my part.Especially since I've never used one. Sure we can make friendly comparisons to other detectors but they are not always accurate. Your comparing a detector with limited hours of use to one with many. I myself have limited hours of use but for me in that short period of time was able to prove to MYSELF that it functions better than the Etrac. Now that makes me think.......what would the CTX do in the hands of an experienced user? Only time will tell.

I guess we have a difference of opinion of what is a negative comment or opinion. CTX users with problems, concerns, likes and dislikes are fine with me. It is the users of other brands or models praising their choice of detector and/or dissing the CTX on this forum are the ones who will be deleted or banned. Their comments and opinions are welcome on Finds, just not on this forum is all.
