I do hope that scuff on the back was already there, it looks like it would be a near perfect coin aside from that.

I didnt do any damage to it digging it. What ever it was actually put a small bend in the coin. It doesnt come through very good on the picture. I would like to think it was damage in an Indian fight! The area where it was found has a strong history of Indian activity and there were some confrontations with early settlers. Wisconsin was not a state until 1848 and at that time there were not very many white settlers. This area was near a trading post so it would have seen a lot of Indian activity.
