I'm not the horse's mouth from Minelab. But even the brochure says that ground compensation is automatic. It also says the CTX 3030 offers Automatic Ground Balance. Automatic Ground Balance refers to the ability of the CTX 3030 to automatically chose the most precise setting, after you Enable ground balance.
Check out the picture taken of the brochure, that I posted last week.

Default is Automatic Compensation. Although many of us commonly refer to that as Tracking, Minelab developed the term "automatic compensation" when the FBS was developed. The functionality of Ground Balance Enable allows the user to replace the Automatic Compensation (tracking) with a set Ground Balance. After you Enable that functionality, you need to Start it and perform the ground balance procedure. The CTX 3030 will remain in that state of "fixed" ground balance until you either reset the ground balance level (with the coil bobbing procedure) or disable ground balance, which puts the CTX 3030 back into the Automatic Compensation (tracking) mode.
