I would say Civil War era, but I am no expert.
If the back was not missing and it had a backmark, that could help date it.
Hopefully others more experienced can confirm or give more information on it.

Every one that comes up like yours with a iron back is ID as a civilian blazer button. It's a cool button but not civil war. 1900's.
