I'm not sure about Civil War era but the stamped brass type like you show was used later into the early 20th Century.
 
Yes. That is a CW bridal rosette from a horse bit. Nice.
 
Was stamped brass used that early? All the Civil War era ones I have seen were cast brass.

I found this on line it looks like they used them on mules in the war
