Is the MXT one of the best machines ever made?

I've been very impressed with my MXT. It was easy and great from the start but the more I learned it the more I got out of it.
Whats your opinion on the humble MXT? It's got to be one of the best ever.

both are excellent.

The only drawback is that it is a single frequency machine. For just a few more $$$
you can get a Minelab Safari with has full band spectrum and easy to use!

I have owned and used the MXT since it first came out. I search in wooded areas and thick brush, with great results. I have worn out three sets of Koss 9000 series headphones on my MXT. Thank goodness Koss has a lifetime warranty. It is a rugged machine. Well built, as is the Minelab.

There are advantages to using a minelab multi frequency machine and those are detecting the wet sand on the beach and clean pasture land where minelabs multi frequency units are about as deep as a detector gets.However,the mxt and m6 are not to far behind in those areas and they will beat the safari hands down in one area and that is searching for small,low conductive objects in iron infested sites.I own minelabs and a whites m6 so i am not being biased to one machine.Also there is no real drawback to a single frequency machine....the best machines for hunting ancient roman sites here in the u.k are single frequency/fast recovering machines that will leave minelabs behind in terms of finds rates.I've used my m6 on many of these types of sites and they do better than my minelabs even with the stock coil......i think with the 10x6 elliptical coil on it would do even better.I love all the machines i own.....each one has stronger and weaker points than another......like the m6 compared to the sovereign.However,just because a machine has multi frequency operation,it will not find more good targets than a good single frequency machine like the mxt,even if it says it will in the manuals.

You had both the MXT and M6 and liked them.

Trust me, you will in a very short time miss them when you realize you find less small gold in the foil range if any. Before you realize that you will find lawns where there used to be lots of tiny pcs of foil but suddenly it seems someone picked up all for you. Same ghost people have picked up most of the nickels and the small jewelry. Maybe youll get tired of that lawn and call it outhunted. Someone with a MXT will then rediscover it.

Agree .... I liked the MXT and the M6 ....both were excellent machines.

I also had the V3 and was not fond of it. Sold that one for the Safari.

In comparison, the Safari is much easier to use. Works for me

Well .... I can't say that I am an expert but here's what is I will say.

The Safari is truly a nice machine. Full Band Spectrum as you already know and its truly a turn on a go machine.
No need to ground balance - fully automatic and easy to pinpoint.

I had no trouble with it on my first hunt. Menu is laid out very well and easy to make adjustments.

If someone forgets how to do something ...... the Safari comes with a very good manual. That in itself is refreshing!

so ....are you also saying that those who are buying the high end full band spectrum machines wasting their money?

There is a significant advantage to multi-frequency machines. Besides, for a little more $$$ I tend to feel its worth it.
I have not used it on the beach but I'm also told it's a great beach machine as well.

You have to agree that the automatic ground balancing is a nice feature.


Not to take away anything from the M6 or MXT as they are probably the best machines that Whites makes.

Pretty easy to use! And in doubt.... a well written instruction manual is included!

It all depends on how you hunt! I tend to dig all targets that have a strong repeatable signal.
This includes the foil range.

Yes, I am digging more trash but my finds are going up too!

Hello Everyone!

My Safari arrived today and thought that I would give my first impression of the machine.

It looks like it is made very well. I especially like the way the lower shaft can be adjusted.
The weather is rainy and cold here and it looks like it will be a few days before it gets nice again.

I guess the way to start using this is in Coin and Jewelry mode with the factory settings.

If anyone can provide other advice ....it would be most appreciated!
