I have had my CTX in the water three times and it did really well, a bit chirpy but did well. As for dry land and the comparison to the E-trac, they have their similarities but after about 4 months of using it after 2 years of the E-trac, I think the CTX is similar but a whole lot more that is different. I feel I get slightly better depth, no scientific study, just my opinion. The great difference to me is the separation of target to iron. The E-trac is excellent in iron trashy areas but the CTX is just simply better! Easier to make decisions with the target trace and sizing, and the iron targets on the screen. The bad part to me is it is not a simple machine. There are a lot of programs/patterns on here to try, but it is like a car with a thousand features, it gets all wrapped around itself if too many are turned on and then the driver gets confused! I was the driver, so I turned off several of the features, then cranked the sensitivity up and suddenly everything got a lot quieter and the numbers and tones were accurate. Great depth on small coins. If you have an E-trac and are really happy with the results and are comfortable with it I would say stick with it, but if you want more features and a greater ability to program and modify tones, etc., then by all means try a CTX!
