Is tesoro going out the door!

 Sir KidaLot says, "Be gone with the negative talk!":crylol: Enough is enough! I'm starting to cry :cry:boo hoo. Can't we all just be nice:cheekkiss: and just not think any bad thoughts? Tiptoe through the tulips.....tiptoe through the tulips....

"Probably no one else here is either, so any uninformed speculation is just that. Uninformed speculation."

In other words, rumor. If all these posts have to offer is "uninformed speculation", maybe it's time to stop it until some better information is released. Re-reading the same posts over and over again on "uninformed speculation" (read: rumors) isn't doing anyone any good.

For what it's worth-the factory said that James left for illness and left his share with Vince. They said not to worry-still going strong.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope it's nothing serious. James is first-class all the way, as is the entire Tesoro company.

In all fairness to poor beachbandit, he didn't start these rumors. And they didn't materialize out of thin air. It's not like someone said "I'm bored, I think I'll start a rumor about Tesoro going out of business..."

As I said in my earlier post, I have no inside source at Tesoro. So my speculation is like others here - uninformed.

Without rehashing everything, there have been things happen that makes questioning the long term viability of Tesoro at least somewhat plausible.

I was told by Christy at Tesoro that Vince Gifford is in charge of designing new products. I could be wrong here, but have any new products come out under Vince's watch that were not just updates of designs from when his dad was running company? Are Vince's engineering credentials strong enough to design a new high-performance, state-of-the-art detector? If so, why has it been so long since Tesoro has come out with a newly designed detector?

Regardless of who started the rumors, it's time that everyone stop the rumors. I for one (and evidently I'm not alone) am tired of seeing the same old posts about the "long term viability of Tesoro." Uninformed speculation, rumor, what ever you want to call it doesn't help anyone. Obvioulsy everyone is very pleased and happy with their Tesoro dectectors and just because the company has not come out with a newly designed detector (read: repackaged technology) doesn't mean it's going belly up. They just did a complete re-furbishing on my Tesoro Stingray, obviously if they were "going out the door" I highly doubt I would have received that detector back in a brand new like condition from the company. If someone has questions such as what you posed, you might want to call them up and ask them yourself.

Tesoro (like all detector manufacturers) does not reveal any information about anything in development.

For what it's worth Don, all three companies of these companies have come out with new product recently showing that they are actively investing in research and development.

Obviously this subject is upsetting you and a lot of folks here so I will shut up from this point forward. :clapping:

2 of my 4 detectors are Tesoros and they serve me well. So I am one of the Tesoro faithful too. And I am unabashedly rooting for Tesoro to have a long and successful future.

Tesoro (the company) must be getting a good laugh out of some of these "gloom & doom" posts while they're headin for the bank!----How did all this get started anyway?----Give it a break guys---"nufs enuf"!------------Del

Oh Heck yes! They is going belly up! That is why I still run them. They ain't worth a crap! :)

I do not post much here. I read a bunch. I try to asorb as much info as I can about these fins machines. I will be running one until I can not hunt any more, Beale.

 These posts ( negative or positive) don't bother me at all. How will anyone know if they don't inquire? I want to buy a new Cortes and a Silver uMax. So if my investment is close to $1,000+ ( including extra coils, covers, etc) then I want to make sure that they don't sell out to someone else just after I recieve my new arsenal. That happened to me with Fisher. Man,... just shortly after I got my Fisher detectors all lined out here comes the announcement about First Texas buying Fisher. Then they did exactly what I thought they might do. They didn't stick with the old line Fishers. They made what I call "mutants" that are half Fisher quality and half Bounty Hunter quality. Then they also stopped promoting and developing the Bounty Hunter line beyond the Time Ranger. Some of these companies are way out of touch with what detectorists really want (IMHO). My favorite companies at this present time are Whites and Tesoro but Whites started making mistakes a few years ago and I don't like the direction they are headed now. So if I am going to turn to Tesoro as my sole source for detecting supplies I want to make darn sure they are here to stay. Maybe Vince should put out a statement on the Tesoro Forum and reassure detectorists that they are solid and let everyone know some of the future plans for the company. This is a great time in detector history for Tesoro to take the lead and become #1. That just makes good sense to me and maybe it will stop some of these cry babies from belly aching about all this. Best Wishes and Happy Hunting from the notorious RDF

P.S. You can't handle the truth :crylol:....Jack Nicholson

If everyone stops responding to these threads they would die off.

OK, I have to be honest.....yes, they're knocking on Heaven's Door....so send me all your Tesoros, and I will give you $10 each for them as a favor. I'm just good hearted that way, and would hate to think someone might get stuck with an obsolete detector.

But ... those old Fisher detectors you bought still work just as good as the day you bought them ... dont they?
And if they came out with something better ... wouldnt that be a good thing?
How can you lose.

Point being ... if it works ... it works.

 Hi Willee, Thanks for the reply. Yes sir the old Fisher still works great and I still have one.:jump: But when the trigger switch broke on my 1266X it cost me $125.00 plus shipping costs to get it fixed.:surprised: The economy has forced me to cut corners wherever I can. The main reason for looking at Tesoro is first, the lifetime warranty, and secondly the light weight.:clapping: I don't know how well Tesoros work since I have never owned one of their newest models. As far as Fisher coming out with something better,....I was really disappointed when they discarded most of the old line Fishers. I guess I'm picky but I don't like a detector that looks like a star wars ray gun. No offence to the "F" series users, I guess I'm weird but I care how a detector looks just like I care about how well they operate. I take a lot of pride in this hobby and as most people know I stay informed about what is going on in the industry. IMHO I think the industry "peaked" in the 1990's and what we see mostly today is repackaged detectors that really are not much better than some of the older ones. There is an old Whites 6000 on Ebay right now and the bid is up to $275.00 !:surprised: What does that tell you? The old Tesoros are selling really well also. After 30 years in this hobby I know that I can take ANY metal detector and find something with it. So my point is really this:......I want to take pride in my hobby. I want to do business with a solid and stable company that understands the needs of the everyday hobbyist. I want quality equipment that look like metal detectors,....... not toys. I want to be able to buy great coils and accessories like jackets, hats, t-shirts with the company logo. I am not out to just buy a detector and go hunting throwing dirt all over the place as I go.:goodnight: This hobby means the world to me and that is why I am so inquisitive all the time. Thanks again for responding to my post. I think that a lot of people just ignore me because I am too eccentric.:wiggle: But it takes all kinds and this is a fraternity of hunters who have many things in common. Happy Hunting from RDF :detecting:

It is certainly an advantage to be able to repair things like switches and broken wires yourself instead of sending it off for repair.
If you do not have those skills or just dont want to mess with it then I can see your interest in a detector with a lifetime warranty.
Tesoro stands behind that and often fixes things they know was misuse on the owners part ... not a fault of their detector.
They even go so far to repair detectors that were bought used and not sent in by the original owner.

I know exactly what you mean about the design of some of the new detectors.
Designed mostly for low cost to manufacture ... Even Tesoro has forsaken metal enclosures for molded plastic.
A lot of us older guys like the option of hip mounting to reduce swing weight but some of the new designs dont allow that.
Admittedly ... they are light weight to start with but still.
Most Tesoro detectors are very light to start with ... the Vaquaro and Cibolo are two good examples of light weight but still powerful.
With little effort they can be detached from the rod and belt or chest mounted ... even stuck down in your chest high waders for some water hunting.
I still like, have , and use the older detectors ... a Lobo ST that is easily hip mounted makes a great beach detector for the very small items other detectors pass over.

I really dont see Tesoro giving it up anytime soon.
They have too many loyal customers, a great product, offer super support, and I am sure their profit margin is healthy.
It is always possible they might sell the company ... but I doubt that will happen in my lifetime.
If they did their older detectors would become the desired ones.

This is not going to be a good sign to anyone thinking about getting a Tesoro? This is the kind of strategic post, that if it was started by someone working for the competition is going to hurt Tesoro. I wish a Moderator would delete this.

Hi, I am new to detecting except for trying it a little about 18 years ago when I got my Tesoro Inca. Didn't know what I was doing with it but still found stuff everytime, should say something about Tesoro! Only used it in the yard once or twice where I found an old peddle car license plate and some other little things I have forgotten, and once to help a realtor find lost keys on a farm. Somehow found them. I recently got it out of the closet and found half of the top of battery holder missing. Called Tesoro in Prescott, AZ and they were soooo nice and to my surprise said they would send me a battery holder for free. Doubt that kind of service would go with a company on the way out. Read a different forum that a guy that was selling his a used Tesoro Inca he recently bought because it was too complicated for him. Well, it was too complicated for me those few times I used it in the yard, but, I still managed to find good things, not junk like so may of the youtube videos show when seasoned detectors use their brands, so, must be pretty amazing brand of detector. What threw me a little was the ground tuning probably, but I got by not knowing what I was doing! Was going to get a different one, but everyone has advised me I have a good one already, so will give it a try again now that I am more interested in detecting.

Canewrap, if someone is going to buy a detector based on some goofy posts on the www, then that person isn't going to stick with MDing for very long anyways, and whatever detector they but will be collecting dust in a closet. There's a pied piper on another forum here who people take his word for gospel. Let them learn for themselves by doing some actual research, not just listening to the hype, or BS of someone on the internet.

Smitty, you'd be surprised at how gullible most people in this country are and until they know differently, these forums seem like a good place to get an honest opinion on the detector they've been looking at. If I was a newbie and I saw this thread on Tesoro I would wonder what was up and start looking for reasons not to buy a Tesoro. This kind of unwarranted discussion doesn't help keep our (I presume) favorite company in business.

I think it's okay from a personal, purely selfish point of view. If someone reads this and decides to get a little yellow bing-bong machine instead, then I know my sites are safe. The good stuff will still be there when they're done.

Oh, and by the way, I know this from personal experience. I had the bing-bonger before I got my first Tejon. I retraced my steps and it was like I hadn't even been there.
