is pinpointer necessary

Hmmmm

I sit here and ponder what I've read. See I look at the pin pointers as a good idea. Of the lot, the Propointer stands above the rest.
It is not a gimmick but a really useful "TOOL". One that is durable and pretty much waterproof as long as you keep the speaker grill covered
and the battery door "O" Ring lubed and snug. The detection range is outstanding if you tweek it a tad.

Is it imperative that every detectorist runs right out and buys one. Heck no but ya know what, it just makes things a little easier.
I mean do we do this as a job or a hobby. I know when I'm out there lost in my headphones and thoughts I don't want a harder
hobby than it has to be. You asked about how much time it would save in an hour. Let me ask you this.

How many swings of the coil do you do in three minutes and in all of those swings you gained by using the Propointer.

Remember.

It only needs to be one of those swings that finds a (insert highly collectable and sought after item )

One point that I did not mention in my earlier post is that when I go detecting with my son he has the Pro-pointer and digging tool so we work as a team, I find target and he does the recovery. It is fun way to include someone if you only have one detector and a pin-pointer.
I have read the forums on the pro-pointer for a year and late in the winter went to my local dealer to buy a 5.75 coil for my Vaquero. The dealer had the Pro-Pointers in stock and I tried one out and well it impressed me enough to drop $150 :canadaflag: and I do not regret it just like my decision to buy the Vaquero. It was a good decision based on real facts from informed users of these products.
So pleased with the Vaquero and the Pro-pointer combo that I posted a thread about this combination.

I was reluctant to drop over 100.00 on a pro pointer myself. Why buy a pinpointer when I never had a problem finding my targets in almost 30 years of hunting with a detector?
Long story short. I did invest in a pro pointer and don't regret it one bit. Why spend 5 minutes trying to find that old square nail head in the dirt when you can locate it in 5 seconds with a pro pointer.
It will speed up your recovery, limit the mess you make digging the target, and by the sound the pin pointer makes will tell you about how far you are from the target.
Since buying my pro pointer I haven't put a scratch on a coin yet and that can make the difference in a high dollar coin or one worth a couple of dollars.
True, I don't NEED a pinpointer to find coins, but it makes it so much easier that I will never hunt without one again personally.
So my advice is if you don't think you need one don't buy one. But I do think if you tried one for an hour you would change your mind and buy one.

Is a pinpointer necessary? No. Can you detect without it? Absolutely. Personally I wouldn't leave home without it. Not something I need at the beach, but essential everywhere else.
I don't haul it out everytime I get a signal - may not use it three times an outing, but when I need it, its invaluable. Especially when your chasing something really small around the hole (like a 1/4 cut hammered) that dosen't want to be found.

The Garrett ProPointer is the best I've ever used. No adjustments, its either on or off. Makes all the other pinpointers I've wasted money on over the years good for nothing but tomato stakes.

how i got along without a Garret pointer so long i dont know, just got me one .superb kit
