is it my imagination, or just me?

hello all, i cannot for the life of me understand why an individual would take the time to sign up for this forum, come up with a stagename, wait 24 hours for the email to let you into the forum, and NOT want to post or interact with our fellow hobbyists. seems we have far more people that just read our posts, and lurk in the shadows. we don't have to sign up to simply read this forum, so what's up with that? 2 posts in 2 years? 1 post in 8 months? c'mon man, you can do better than that. i want to hear from you, as i'm sure all the others do too. stop lurking and get involved! thanks.

Hi Grayhost,

I'm new, and I've already posted several messages. I live in Washington State. My wife and I just got two Bounty Hunter Quick draw detectors and have gone out on several outings-mostly to a local park. The oldest coin I have found thus far is a 1937 Wheat penny. I also found an old toy (I think) Derringer Cap gun about a foot down under roots by a riverbed. It was about 3-3.5 inches long and looks pretty old. I'm guessing 1940-1950;s, but I could not find an exact match.

I just got permission to hunt an old boy scout camp that goes back to the 30's, and I am awaiting permission to hunt another Boy Scout camp that was founded in 1918. I'm hoping to get out there this coming weekend if I can get my back feeling better. I have had to go to the chiropractor twice this week cause I could barely move!

I'm hooked. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes, and perhaps I can figure out how to put pictures on the site-my wife is better at that than I am.

could be an introvert!...more of those around these days!

(h.h!)
j.t.

 Introvert? too many letters.....dictionary please!!!
Seems to me that people are scared that they may be criticised or feel belittled by the size of the
ginormas intellectuals that lurk around here..NO OFFENSE...but as Ive learned these people share a passion and are friendly and open hearted enough to share everything they know to help further the hobby, not clam up
and think that the more people get in to it the less they'll find, so if you have a QUESTION please feel
free to ask. These people dint mind redundancy...So shadow-people join us, step up to the keyboard
and share. Even small finds are a treasure. PS If you dint see something someone has posted that pertains to you,you post it!

THERE I said it,I feel better now!

And thanks again everyone who shares their knowledge
on a daily basis

Not a bit overboard I hope

Sorry, I'm one of the guilty parties. I lurked several forums for about 6 months before I decided to offer my 2 C's.. But hey, I'm here now. And I'm freakin' glad I joined!

Hello GrayGhost, I've been a guilty lurker before . But I talk too much to stay that way ,lol.
I am a member of several forums and somtimes post one one more than others

I don't guess I'm much of a lurker.

I average over nine post a day on the Finds Forum.

I have noticed that some never participate.

This forum emotionally supports my detecting habit.

You can learn a lot by just reading, but joining in brings

it home and has accelerated my ability to find the goodies.

If I have a misconception, then some one will usually help me

out.

HH,

I guess I'm guilty of being more of a lurker than anything else..... I'm certainly not new to the hobby, starting in the '70's with a used D-Tex BFO! That was an experience!!

I now use a White's MXT mostly, with a Minelab Quattro as "heavy artillery" when I want to go for some really deep relics. The MXT has become like an extension of my arm. I understand it's language much better than the Quattro and, with a little 5" Excelerator coil, I have been able to pull some amazing finds from some really trashy places! I was a bit frustrated at first and thought I had made a mistake but now (after three years) I could not survive without my MXT! :inlove:

My only problem with posting is having something worthwhile to post. Here in VERY southern Arizona (Yuma) I sometimes feel I'm the only person in the world doing this. I go out at least two or three times a week and sometimes I go for a whole year without seeing another detectorist. I HAVE found more than my share of good finds, but I get lazy when I think of posting something I found last week, or last month, or last year. Some of the places I hunt have really horrible soil, so by the time I get my finds cleaned enough to be presentable, I'm too lazy to post them!

The only other detectorist I know, a co-worker, has come up with a lead on an occasionally used military emcampment dating from the Indian Wars through WWII. We're going to go check it out Saturday. Maybe we'll find nothing, but it'll be fun to do some exploring. I'll try to get some pics either way.

i for one don't always have the time to post, and usually end up doing more reading than anything.plus i'm slow as heck at the key board.(2 post 2 years,1 post in 8 months) not guilty! i think i'll get better in time, some fresh finds would make it easier, haven't been out at all this year because of loooooong winter! and to busy at work! should be getting some good weekend hunts in shortly though, and some of those,(boss, man i do not feel good! :cry:think i have the fever) hunts:devil:

Hummmm. I guess some people like to HANG around like OLD GHOST'S and remain unseen.
I'm sorry. I just that you have a fun stage name.

I have the opposite problem. I tend to read the first post and respond immediately without
having taken the time to read all the other post that followed the first. That usually gets me into trouble!:heh:

Regards
RR

Hi Todd:
Where in Washington State? I used to live in Seattle before I moved to
Indiana. I'm about ready to head back there, to God's country!

I don't think I am guilty of lurking on this site, but other sites I have been. The main reason is to learn before inserting foot into mouth. There are a lot of people with a great deal of experience/knowledge and someone can learn a tremendous amount of information by observing. Course it could be the opposite, they are posting away on everything with nothing really to add. Don't think the lurking is always a bad thing, unless everyone was lurking. This is a great forum. :clapping:

Hi, I just signed up the other day and already getting good advice from other experienced diggers.Know how you feel with your back. No one could help me with mine until a friend introduced me to a little 4 ft 8 inch Chinese lady accupressure doctor. First time on the table I literally came off from the pain when she started. Now I go years with very little pain sometimes just a slight dull ache.Try an accupressurist out not an accupuncture if you can find one. I can detect and also hold onto a big fish without my back bothering me since then.

I agree. Sometimes it only takes one moron to make fun of someone asking a question and silence a bunch of others from asking any questions. I usually pounce on them and contact a moderator. They either can the person, or ream them a new one. We don't need anyone here who has an ego, to trash anyone else. No question is stupid. That's why we all come here. To talk our hobby and mingle with a great bunch of folks. Got questions, opinions? Ask away. HH

I would certainly encourage everyone to actively participate.
Different viewpoints and experiences are always welcome.

We all can't be Mel Fisher...
I'm trying a new coil, and this is all I found in today's short hunt... but it was a bonus watching little kiddies play soccer!
And then I got home and found this swarm on my fence.

Don't care for someone? Ignore them...
Get some flak? It won't bleed...

It's all good.
