Is Installing Something Yourself Stealing?

Your money is better left in your own pocket, you can use the few extra bucks to buy a beer, or something for the kids/grandkids stimulate the economy close to home first.

No, I liked the beer suggestion better. I'll do that...:beers:

Been away from the mods forum for a while.

No it is not stealing.

If those who think or suggest it is, would get similar persecution for saying they had a great restaurant meal and went home and were able to reproduced it for the family for a lot less money, then maybe they would get the message and wouldn't be so quick to denigrate the pursuit of happiness. (Hmmm ... but maybe they don't or can't cook either).

Looking forward to following the progress on your other thread!
Cheers,

Duplicating patented ideas for profit is one thing, but improving on a patented idea is how things get better for us all!

Make it better and we all benefit!

Now a V-8 engine and racing slicks on my Ace 250????????

Hey, waving a hand at you cupajo. Hope you're getting a little detecting time in, but with the weather the way it is right now, I doubt it. Do you snow board ?

Now, now, tsk, tsk!! :punch:

This AM at almost 11 oclock I took my usual beach combing stroll at low tide and I had to wear 5 layers of clothes to be somewhere near comfortable.

The day started at17 degrees F and made it up to the low 20s with a brisk north wind to add to the insult.

As I do most days I nearly filled the 4 gallon plastic pail with fishing line, glass and other odd bits and pieces of plastic and metal from along the water line and the high tide line.

Too cold to run a detecter in my book.

Now if I was that Canadian feller (John) who hunts in sub-zero temps-----------------!

I'm just an older guy who prefers at least a little comfort as I enjoy my day,

No but be careful as if you error in some way surely will kill a warranty and you might accuse the manufacturers of stealing if its not when you get the repair bill....

Not theft. I also believe you may recreate a patented item for you own use. The issue there is if you try to sell that object. Now an industrius man might get a licence and do these mods for others, for a profit. That would be called capitalism. There is after all more than one hot rod shop in this town.

I hope you did not expect to get the other opinion in the Modification Forum.

You've hooked with a couple of far-left liberal types. Tell 'em to kiss your foot, do your mods and move on to some better folks. Where do these nut-megs come from? We all have out own opinions and these are mine. :clapping:

No, that sounds like something Ann Coulter would say.

The idea to put a volt meter on the Sov's has been around for YEARS. And as other member stated.....that guy can't patent a design feature using existing tools available off the shelf OR a pinch off of the original design (as the original meters are just voltage meters themselves). Build-Mod-or Tear Up your own metal detector....it's yours NOT theirs. It's NICE that the guy has taken the time to mod something useful (kinda-you lose a speaker) and he is willing to "fix" one up for you or us for a "price". Well............America has been built on people doing what they WANT to do :) It ain't going to change overnight.....although the Government is "working on it" they still have a job to do....and they are hoping that we sleep through the change. LOL

NO its not, its yours you can do whatever you want with it, just like modifying a car, you can do with it what you will. HH :detecting:

 installing it for yourself  Thats a good one.

I believe Joe expected this though so you are not doing anything except fulfilling expectations. For all I know he had you in mind when he made that comment about folks coping his work as soon as it was made public. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Might get off the wounded victim soap box though. Its lame.
I don't hear Joe moaning and groaning about it. Just you.

Cheers,
Mike
