Is a pin pointer (probe) a worth while tool ?

Hi just wondering if a pin pointer is a handy tool to have when detecting as objects seem to get lost
and extra digging seems like more effort and at times I have actually lost the find or given up (not too often !)
If so what is a recommended type/ model/brand/ and price range as on a budget at present as just bought a
Whites XL pro 6000 older model but real goodie so looking to compliment
please help with your much appreciated feedback

Wouldn't leave home without mine, (Vibraprobe 570). Just makes the whole process faster. As I got older I found it a little harder to spot coins in the dirt that had just come out of the hole. I then resorted to drug store glasses but, you have to get a certain distance or everything goes blurry. No problem finding coins in a plug but, in loose dirt the pinpointer makes all the difference. I had the DX-1 on my MXT but sold it because it was detector specific and I have 2 MD's with another on the way. The DX-1 was great. Pinpointers, some folks like them some could care less about them. Good luck.

I use one nearly all the time. As mentioned above they speed up recovery a good bit. Also, helps when the detector keeps responding to a target and you keep digging when actually you're already deeper than the target as it's just inside the wall of the hole. Also helps to pin down the location when you are near, but not quite on it with your digging. My two bits.

Have bid on an auotomax

Don't bid too high on it. I wouldn't go over $25, or you may have buyer's remorse. It is a good unit if you don't have anything else, but the Automax is rather low on the totem pole as far as quality and sensitivity goes. It's what I'm using right now, but I am looking for something better, more likely a Sunray inline probe.

They are great ... but if your like me ..you loose your Bullseye pin pointer

within a month of getting it... the next time I get one its going to be attached to my tool belt,

with a rope and duct tape.

LOL Thanks for that
Maybe I will find your lost one (if I do I''ll let you know)
I will definatly get a tool belt
Cheers

I went out again yesterday, Sunday, and I had to use the pinpointer. It's a cheapo but I was able to find my target.
Two I could not find for the life of me so maybe it was a false signal to begin with. If you can afford to get a good
pinpointer then by all means pay the extra money. When I can afford to buy a Bullseye I'll get that one. Until the cheapo
is doing the job for me.

Yes a pinpointer is a really good tool to assist your digging. I am looking into a Sun Ray DX 1 for my DFX.:detecting:
I would never leave home without it.

I have or have used the Treasure Mate, the Bullseye, the Merlin and the DX-1. They all do the job, but my preference is for the Treasure Mate and the DX-1(on the machines it will fit).

As the others have said, I don't leave home without it. I use the Auto Max and couldn't be happier. I tried the Bullseye brt I just really like the handle on the Auto Max. Just remember IT'S NOT A DIGGING TOOL OR A PRYBAR. Use it for what it's intended for and it will last a long time. Littletwig

The day I received my Bullseye 2, I wrapped it in a plastic bag and duct-taped it shut to keep the rain, mud and dust out of the insides.
I had read about the failure of the switch on multiple posts so I was taking no chances.
Bought the unit in November and yesterday the switch went dead on me.....fresh battery didn't help and now I feel like I am detecting naked.
A person really gets used to having a pinpointer and they are a very useful tool to have on your belt.
Back to Whites it goes.

Pin pointers, no matter what one you end up with, are worth their weight in time spent chasing signals around a ever expanding hole.

By all means do youself a big favor and invest in one. You will be glad you did.

It's like a Hot Rod car without mag wheels?

A metal detector without a probe?

A must have.

I just purchased detector's Pro's Pocket probe (expensive) but best probe I ever used

I can locate a small earring in a large wet sand beach hole in seconds

Without it I would pack up and go home

Hi do your self a faver put it in a ziplock bag poke the end throught the bag and put tyrape around the end were it comes throught the bag.it will last for ever other wise the switch will go bad from the dirt and the mosture I went throught 3 of them in a short time untill I tryed the bag it works great.wood not be with out one they save so much time digging and recovery time .
