Is a Deus a good Car trunk Metal Detector?

Let me clarify. I want a metal detector that I can carry around with me always in my car trunk just case I find that ONE good spot to detect. I like the fact that the Deus is wireless and heat is a factor during the summer (in the 100's sometimes in Southern California). From what I can discern the electronics can be removed from the Deus. Am I not correct? I I like to be ready to detect if you know what I mean.

Well there’s plenty of smart electronics in those coils too. So I guess you could leave the shafts in your car and pack the rest inside work or whatever. (I always tell my self that they should be designed for desert prospecting and beach hunting as well, so the conditions are surely accounted for in engineering...right?)

It’s cheap, plenty capable, wireless phones and pinpointer operation, collapsible, decently ergonomic, waterproof, rechargeable, and most importantly, it’s tougher than a bucket of hammers and nails. Deus so much more than a simplex in a lot of ways. Especially price.
My only machine right now will be the DEUS sooo.... it’s my all tector I guess I actually have zero detectors at the moment. New DEUS arriving....not soon enough!

Thanks Iowa yes I am leaning towards getting a Deus. I like to have a variety in the herd and Ive heard many good things about the Deus.

I wouldn’t leave a Deus /ORX in my trunk. You can take the remote off ……. Those XP coils are expensive $300.00 per coil. Find you an affordable used detector, that way the heat and getting tossed around a lot , your loss won’t be great !!

Gotcha that makes sense. I have not thought of that getting a good used detector. Thanks for the input.

I keep usually 2 detectors in my car in the back seat but in backpacks. The Orx is one of them. If it is super hot I will bring it inside work but as long as I park under a tree for shade it doesn’t get hotter than about 90 on a hot afternoon. I will keep my front windows open an inch. Never had a problem doing that. Deus is safe up to 104 degrees per manual specs.

That's a very nice chart. I always have my windows down to where the bottom edge of the window vent is.
I have those plastic things that allow you to have the window down a couple of inches even when it pours.

How hot does a black coil get in the gulf coast sun after hours of detecting? Hotter than 100 degrees, guaranteed. I live in one of the hottest and most humid environments in the country. If those temps are accurate then my detectors should be broke regardless of being in the truck or not. I don’t take my DEUS in the truck when it’s 90 degrees and 97% humidity. But I think it would probably be ok. It’s off. I would also wager that most of the materials are manufactured at higher temps than what’s in our car. It’s all black polymers, so what does that do in direct sunlight while hunting? I’ve also not seen a direct warning from any manufacturer that says “ warning, serious risk to detector components if x temp is exceeded” or “warranty void if exposed to high temps”.
This is just my head about it. Probably because I’m looking for ANY opportunity to dig. Much like the OP.

Since you work in an office with a view overlooking the gulf now, just take your sparkling new Deus into the air conditioned office it does get warm here don't it. Thank God for backphones!!

I think there is a big difference in keeping a detector locked up in a car in direct sunlight.
Than swinging one in direct sunlight outdoors which will never see temps like in a locked car.
Back in the day when I smoked I left a Bic Lighter on the dashboard when I came back it had exploded
& cracked the windshield never had one explode in my pocket. I do live in Florida

Yeah I keep mine in a duffle bag in the back of my van where it's always shaded plus I keep the windows down a couple of inches. I still will take it out on the hot days like it will be the next days here in Pa.

The Deus is under something like 28 inches when you slide it together. I also remove the lower shaft. It all slides back together and opens up it seconds. You should watch the video Gary Blackwell has that shows you how portable the Deus is.

Look on eBay under tennis racket bags. The ones that fit several rackets. I like Prince brand. They are ideal and often have dividers for coils. Mine fits shaft with one coil and 2 coils in the other compartment. There’s room for short shovel and back phones (hat mtd) I added the straps to be a backpack but they come with a shoulder strap and handles. They also open in the wide direction making it simple to remove and put back in.
