Hey Guys I ran across this vid.on you tube and wanted to see what all my Tesoro friends think.I didnt know how to put the link on here.Maybe one of you guys know how but the youtube title is Tesoro Metal detector and it is by Danny Warren Cohran.I ran accross it by entering Tesoro sting ray trying to learn more about the stingray I just purchased last week.Let me know what you think.THANKS AND HH

is this it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDP7RwaZw8g

And that is why I use the AT Pro not the Compadre.

Well I am amazed at the results of that video, in all metal it should have picked up that chain if you noticed he didn't show what settings he was actually using kinda fishy to me!!

Yeah I wasn't sure if the vid.was legit but I wanted all my Tesoro friends to see it.I had an excalibur 800 once and it did'nt do well on a necklace.Hope you all understand I didnt post this for any bad reason in fact I'm going to the lake today with the Tesoro sting ray I purchased last week. This will be my first outing with it.Only got a couple of hours to hunt.HH to everyone.

Small gold chain have always been one of the hardest items for a detector to pick up,as usually a detector will only see each link for some reason rather than the whole chain, not sure the scientific reason why but that is what happensmbut if you have a chain that has either a big solid gold clasp or say a solid gold charm type of item on the chain then it should pick it up as a normal item.

Its not unique to any specific brand name of VLF detect as it also happens with Pulse machines as well,i am not saying that every detectors fails on picking up gold chain as that is not always the case, but suprisingly enough a small gold chain is a very hard item to find,if its a solid item like a ring or gold coin, nugget etc then most detectors will pick that up straight away,i am almost certain its too do with detectors only being able to pick up individual links rather than the whole chain.

The Golden Sabre is an older model that has a limited lower discrimination range that will not get even close to all-metal in the Disc. mode. The Golden Sabre has a threshold based all-metal mode but that is not what he was using in the 'test' when he said it was in all-metal. The Golden Sabre would have given a 5 star signal on the gold chain if in the true threshold all-metal mode.

The Compadre has the ED-180 Disc.and when set to the "All-Metal", it would have given a 5 star signal on that gold chain. He does not show the setting of the Compadre, so the 'test' is not valid, the Disc. setting is unknown. Just another reason not to believe what you see on boob tube.

My Compadre will easily detect a much smaller gold necklace than the one shown in the video, one of those real fine ones. Someone is shoveling BS.

Thanks guys for responding.Maybe one of you guys should do a vid and show the settings.I dont hv a way to make a vid and I dont hv a compadre either.I would love to see that.HH

There is only one knob on a Compadre. Not a lot of adjusting to do. He said all-metal which would indicate the discrimination was off. No other adjusting to be done.

I had several Compadres. The first had an 8" coil and when I posted that it didn't pick up small gold as well as my DFX I was told some line about the 5.7" coil is the good Compadre. I bought a Compadre with the 5.7" coil and it was the same just less depth. When I posted that, I was told it was stupid to compare a $1,000 detector to a $140 detector. Yeah well like I wouldn't expect a more expensive detector to do better? It wasn't I who claimed it was a gold monster. The Compadre is a killer detector FOR THE MONEY nothing else. Nothing wrong with that either. If it had better depth it would be the ultimate tot lot detector.

So Southwind with all your experience with the Compade you think it can't detect that great big ole gold necklace, not a beep?

my girlfriend has a very small, thin gold ring. i mean, small. my vaquero hits it air testing at around 6 inches and disc's out at just before nickel maybe a wee bit less. with sense on 10, thres at 2. im sure a compadre could pick that up. unless something is wrong with it. but, ive never used a compadre either.

My Safari couldn't see a very thin gold bracelet that I eye balled. My F70 could not see a very small gold earring on the sidewalk. It beats me? But I think they are both great machines and have found gold with them of both. I bet almost everyone can write about a detector that could not see some gold??? .....Z

I think this video will settle things. The little Compadre gets a 5 star rating when it comes to detecting this really fine 14k gold necklace. I did some testing where I just used enough discrimination to discriminated out a paper clip and the Compadre was still able to detect this very fine 14k gold necklace. The only detector that I have that did better in that test was my G2, but not by much. The Tesoro Compadre is one amazing machine at any price.

Now what does commonsense tell you how the Compadre would fair in a test with a huge gold necklace like the one in the above video? Huh?

Again, I'm not trashing the Compadre because it is a great machine for the price. What I will do is call BS when I see it and I don't care who likes it or not. Call me an A-Hole but I will always be an honest A-Hole.

No offense tabman but my god look at the size of the clasp on the *cough* gold chain. The chain might as well been a piece of thread with a clasp that size any detector would have hit it hard. Also, those air tests aren't worth two cents with gold and you know it. Put that same piece of gold on the ground and see what happens. Don't know about you but I have yet to find a piece of gold in the air. The Compadre is a fair gold machine and a good one for the price, but there are much better for not much more. The AT Pro will smoke it like a toy on gold. I hunt mostly tot lots for my gold and many have wood chips at 10" or deeper. You think that Compadre will hit that at 10"? Be honest now. The AT Pro would bank it like a $5 whore at 10" LOL.

Southwind, comparing the Compadre to the ATP doesn't really make much sense. It's like saying that your sports car is better than my pickup truck - it's an argument that can never be won no matter how "logical" you think you are. People here are enthusiastic about the Compadre because it works and it's inexpensive, that part is fairly obvious. What's wrong with letting folks be enthusiastic about this little unit that works so well for the price of a nice family dinner? Certainly you could say the same about the Cibola, but Tabman and many others don't seem to be running short of good finds with it. Many here see detectors like yours, with a color TV to watch as you scan, as not necessary, and like spending $1000 to $1500 premium so you don't have to dig as much. One of the differences in some of the discussions I see here is they are centered more on how detectors and detecting works, not about the best "program" they should put in to their machine. Now, if you say that you dig just as much trash as a fellow with a Tesoro because "you never know unless you dig it", then why spend the money on an expensive unit? I can tell you why right now: because you like them! I like them too. Wrong or right doesn't matter, simplicity and performance that takes practice and know-how to achieve the highest performance in a unit that takes time to master is what what folks like about the Tesoros. In fact, I have an X-Terra 705 that works wonderfully and because of the different style and philosophy of the Tesoros I am close to pulling the trigger on a Vaquero or Tejon. You have lots experience to be sure, but when it comes to this type of argument it's best to recognize it for what it is and just let it go.

Southwind I have a AT Pro that I bought new not too long a go and it sets in the corner gathering dust. I could go over in the AT Pro Forum and spend days posting all that is wrong with the AT Pro, but I won't, because there's no need. I can afford any detector on the market, but I own a bunch of Tesoros instead because they work extremely well and are fun to use. Sooooo, why don't you go over in the AT Pro Forum and bloviate about how great all your detectors are, because most Tesoro users could care less about your detectors.:)

I must agree that the size of that hasp is huge and a better test would be if the chain was in the ground ( or even on top of the ground with the hasp missing and the chain straightened out full length . Also it would be interesting to show how a chain can be heard when it is all balled up together .
