BTW - me and my buddy just got back from a week long Mass hunt, I am getting my finds cleaned up and will post my story shortly.
We had an absolute blast

There are big game and fishing guides that make money while enjoying their hobby, even gold nugget guides and fitness trainers,....................Hummm..........??

enjoy the next few weeks of the season as much as I can. It's my favorite weather and the temps are sweet....in the 60's. I never get a lot of time...but can usually squeeze in 2 to 3 hours once a week...then get some time on the weekends.

I guarantee you one thing....if I lived about 2 hours closer to you...you would probably get tired of seeing me so much. :detecting: I'd be bangin' on your door about once a week saying..."C'mom...Let's go pound some parks".:clapping: I have the best time meeting up with people and hunting with them...and I would love to make it to some of the club get togethers. Everything I do from here on out though will hinge on how my Dad's health holds up. Take care my friend...and stay in touch.
 
Sorry but I just got back in town otherwise I would have posted or called you sooner. Nice job again you are good luck for me too. I got fours silver coins myself but not the old types you got. I might just email you my pictures they are making me mad/ maybe you can post the picture for me after I post?? PS- I still can't believ the 3 pens coin was in that park. I'm glad I saw it come out-I wont forget that one.

well done mate yes what u have found is an english threepence, unfortunatly they are not worth much probly just the silver content value, i live in australia and we are lucky to find quite a lot of these as they where our currency up until 1910, they are beutifull looking coins, congrats on your finds Nick :) ps i always enjoy reading your posts even though im an xterra user lol
 
Congrats on the good day out & nice three pence Bryce i love finding them little suckers unfortunately i don't find to many with Queen Vic on them like you did.
 
Hey, when you have your gain way up, don't the tiny deep hits sound like they are sitting on top of the ground? I have maxed out my gain a few times with luck but really like the sound strength variance for a depth indicator. Your post sounded like you were still getting tiny deep hits... what were you running your gain at?

doing better once I bumped up my gain. I do still get little faint deep hits...but I hear them because my gain is at 10. I always mess with settings and experiment over deep targets in the field. Once I located the deep coins I found Wednesday...I dropped the gain 1 notch at a time over each target before I dug them. With the gain set at 7...the SE didn't even peep over the 3 pence...the seated....or the Barber dime. Maybe they did peep...but the target was deep enough...with gain at 7 the sound wasn't amplified enough to be heard.. With gain at 8...I heard a peep..but it sounded more like a falsing chirp or pop which I wouldn't have stopped to investigate. With gain at 10 however...I heard the sounds...stopped to investigate them... and dug the coins. To make a long boring story short...there's 3 nice silver coins that would still be in the ground if I wasn't running my gain at 10 which made those little chirps as loud as could be possibly heard....and allowed me to investigate. True...it takes some time to get used to the falsing...pops...and weird noises not usually heard with lower gain...but that's why I run my sensitivity in semi auto...because it minimizes the falsing and chirping. I'm still finding coins in the 8" to 10" depth range...so I don't feel I lose any depth. If I'm in a clean area...I can run sensitivity at manual 26 with the SEF coil and also the 11" pro coil....and still run my gain at 10. Those deep 8" to 10" coin hits are still much more faint than more shallow targets and I can still tell a difference between deep hits and shallow ones. It does take some getting used to though in order to be able to distuinguish between shallow and deep hits with the gain at 10...but it's definately been worth it for me.
Another thing is that most of the places I hunt are void of almost any hits less than 7" deep. If I do run over some 4" to 6" clad it nearly blows my ears off and is easy to distuinguish. If I run over a deep injun or silver though 8"+,,,it's more of a nice high tone "warbly" sound as opposed to the normal high pitch flutey tone of a shallow coin. I hope I'm explaining this right...but I do still get the high flutey tone...but it's more of a fainter, mellower "warbly" sound that says "deep coin" to me....and I can tell the difference from deep to shallow coin. I just know it works for me...but it does take some getting used to. I don't mind glancing at the depth meter every now and then if it means digging up a deep coin I would have walked over with a lower gain setting.
If you are hunting a site that has a lot of shallow hits...then high gain might drive you nuts because you would hear a multitude of high loud hits. Again though...most parks I hunt don't have a lot of shallow hits left...so this style works great for me. Take care Robin..and go pop out some more of those sweet injuns you've been finding. Mine always seem to come out of the ground nasty:rolleyes:
 
I didn't know what I had until I checked it out online. I have no clue how or why it was in this little small town park...but that's why I love tihis hobby.
 
responding and good luck with the x-terra. I know a few guys who absolutely love that machine. I didn't figure the 3 pence was worth even as much as the worn out seated dime I found...but it sure brought a smile to me and my buddy's face when the little critter popped out of the dirt pile.:clapping:

Super finds!!! Congratulations!!! I love these hobbie too, just seeing what other people find puts a smile on my face too. Good luck on the next hunt!!! I don't think you need it though. :thumbup:
 
a ton of people...and I'm glad you enjoy it too. Trust me...I do need the luck...'cause no matter what site I'm at..I still have to be lucky enough for my coil to pass over the target...and at the right angle. Also...I feel the same way you do....I am just as happy seeing what others find. It puts a smile on my face seeing it come out of the ground...no matter who finds it. I usually hunt atleast 8 hrs. at a time and that coil starts getting heavy after a few hours and not to mention it's hard to use in the terrain I hunt in but it works great in freshly cut hay fields and pastures.
