This is my first post, and I have just begun to learn how to use my Ace 250. Something I don't understand is the inconsistent signals I get. I pass the coil over a spot and get a signal. I then repeatedly pass the coil over the same spot and get no signal. The sensitivity setting is at the factory level. Any help would be appreciated.

Inconsistent signal from Ace 250

Are you searching in all-metal mode??
I search in coin or sometimes jewelry mode and get what you are experiencing. A signal moving the coil one direction and it disappears on the back swing or from a different direction.
What you may find is that the Ace gets fooled when you swing the coil one way but then from a different direction the Ace brain correctly eliminates the signal as a piece of trash you have notched out.
Put the unit in all-metal mode next time this happens and then dig whatever target you are getting. I am willing to bet it is a piece of can-slaw or other hunk of junk.

Yeah, I hated my Ace at first, now I cant get enough of it. I use jewelwry mode, fact sens, eliminate foil. When you get a signal, go to the opposite side of the target, and swing the coil. Do this, it will help. Kinda like north, south, east, west of the signal spot. It most of the time is trash, iron when it does that. Coins, 99% of the time will be very consistant sounding. Good luck, give it a couple months, you'll get it. H H

Yeah, the factory preset is a joke-at least in East Texas. There is so much junk in the ground that it sounds like a ping pong ball. Four bars is max here and I don't have to worry about depth as I've found quarters at nearly 7" in tough ground. When I'm around playgrounds, I run it at 3 bars and am able to get close to playground equipment and then when I get in the clear spots I bump it to 4 bars. On a test with my Garrett Freedom III, I was matching it at 3 bars. I once tried 6 bars in a clear and clean area and when I hit what I thought was a deep target, I went back to 4 bars and the signal was just as clear.Uncle Willy

Set your sensitivity at four bars and leave it there. Will solve most of your problems. Keep the coil at least an inch off the ground and swing slow until you are familiar with the machine.
