In reference to the posts concerning X-Terra's shutting off....

G'day Hunngy.
That sure is a nice part of the world where you live. My Grand parents used to live at Kilarney Vale back in the 70's and early 80's.
I was born and raised in the Blue Mountains. I've been living in Dubbo since 1990. Took some long service leave late last year to look for work in Newcastle, but found the cost of real estate was too high. It's a shame as there are a lot more detecting opportunities down your way. Oh well, I'll make the most of what I have.
As the in-laws live in Lakemba, I hunted around the Bankstown, Canterbury, Strathfield areas mostly. When we go down this Christmas, I'm hoping to do some descent beach hunting. Sure would like to do plenty of that.
Good luck with your hunts and post your finds.
Mick Evans.

G'Day Mick, I used to live in Greenacre, cnr Noble Ave & Banksia Rd, Small world isn't it. It's tough on the beaches hear in summer, nothing to have 3 or 4 other detectorists on the beach at the same time. 2yrs ago I met 8 other detectorists on the same beach in 1 week, no one got much at all, The worst experience i had was seeing 3 blokes side by side sweep the beach clean. It's better after the holidays are over, and they all take their detectors back home, still I can't complain, I do all right HH

I almost detected on your front door! Literally! I got permission to detect around the Greenacre pool with the X-Terra the Christmas before last! I only had an hour and a half, as I'd promised my wife that I'd be back by a certain time (her parents live on Lakemba St). Still, I managed to pull up $26 in that time. No pre-decimals though. The ground was tough as nails though, and due an injury, I was barely able to hold onto a screw driver anyway. So anything more than 2 inches deep, stayed there. Bev (my wife) used to go to her school swimming carnivals there.
As far as seeing anyone hunting beaches, I've never seen another soul (in my whole life) do that. Mind you, I know what you mean about not finding much. While on my long service last year, I hunted several of Newcastle's best known beaches, of which, after hunting some of them for several hours each, I came up empty! What might be of interest though, Bondi beach, gets 40 to 50 000 visitors to each each day, in peak season, so if there are a few detectorists there, then they can't possibly get it all, not to mention it's huge size and lack of parking would make it a detecting mecca. Getting there by train might be best, but don't hunt too late as there is an undesirable element, that may come out in the later hours of the night.
Just a thought.
Mick Evans.
