In General

Larry is right on!

I own both and have done lots of testing. Trust the V3i and things will only get better as you use it. It is every bit as deep as my E-Trac.

Or,,,,,,,,,,, Is it a much misunderstood detector?????????

Someone please tell me your getting great results using the V3i ...

I can see from just reading the manual that many will never get it.. (Maybe I will be one) and never take the time to operate this detector properly..

What I am asking is if you have mastered it.How is it working for you on depth, Id, and general operation..

I will tell you how to answer your question Elton. Hunt with someone else who is not using a V3i, as many times as you can and do a total treasure(not junk) count to compare between the machines. It is the final tally of the machine's finds that's given me cause to think I might still have a dog in this machine even after 3 years.

When your hunt buddy shouts, "How did you miss this Martin" and he pulls a rather shallow quarter from one of the exact spots I just swept...well, the V-machine does come into question. I wish I could say that that episode was just that one time. Nope.

I have no reason to make you a non believer in the V3i Elton. I do want you to realize that the V3i is an "emotionally based beast" and trying to max out it's capabilities usually makes for tons of anguish for new owners. Run modrate levels for a while. That's why I run conservative power settings and accept solid targets 8 inches or less. Yes. I dig some deeper targets. I ain't never found a 10" dime, or even a 10" quarter so far though.

Do me a favor and help me in finding better stuff than my friends from what you glean from your feedback and experience. I honestly hope that you zoom up to top proficiency with the V3i. I am still trying, and will keep trying. I will likely always keep mine, so if I find some magic to pass along, I will. Until my hunt buddies quit out hunting me with their off brands, I'll never be real happy.

It use to be on the old software but they might have deleted it on the new one.

I hate to say this again but.....the above questions answers are.....what Larry said.

Also take into consideration....I would prefer to have only 1 machine(someday)....when I find that perfect machine, then that's the only one I will have. Unfortunately, that day is NOT here. The v3i definitely has its strong points on gold and trash discrimination etc....Ive proved it to myself over and over again....the other point to consider IS......take a look at the picture.....the v3i not only found most of this but also was able to find it.....as some other machines would not be able to. Yes, you read that correctly. A pic is worth a thousand guesses....

My goal is also one detector. Currently I have 3 actively used. I use the E-Trac at our city park where coins are extremely deep, the AT Pro for tot lots, yards, schools and relics, and I'm learning the V3i to replace them both. I have taken the V3i to the city park and ran it side by side to my E-Trac and the guy I hunt with E-Trac. It has picked up EVERY coin the E-Tracs did. The difference was the E-Trac was easier to tell it was a coin. But then I've got 5 years experience with my E-Trac. I think with experience the V3i will do just as well or better.

The E-Trac is one of the worst tot lot detectors I've ever used. Tot lot hunting makes up a good 50-60% of my hunting. The AT Pro is the best tot lot detector I've ever used and the V3i hit on small gold just as well and as deep. The only reason I'm still using my AT Pro is weight and I'm still needing more experience with the V3i. It could replace my AT Pro anytime.

The key on both situations here is lacking the experience with the V3i. I think this is what many are lacking when they try and judge the V3i. You see my list of detectors I've gone through looking for that perfect machine to do the job I want. I understand the importance of using just one detector for all hunting. If you use more than one detector you're going to not be as efficient on either one as you could be if you only used one. That is why I have now gone back to the V3i. I feel it has the best potential to be that one detector.

Elton, I answered your PM before I read some of the good answers just posted. Ever wonder why they put a stick shift in a Corvette, after all the automatic can shift for you. MAYBE, the drivers believe they can do it better, sort of like Nascar drivers.

Just like many detectors it's like driving an automatic. They are easy to operate and since there is nothing to adjust they feel they are running optimum and they don't have to worry they did something wrong.

I have a detector which name I will not use. It is deep and only has two adjustments. One, G/B and two, Gain. It is a good unit but I will never believe it wouldn't be a better unit if I could change the filter and recovery for different sites.

I have had my V3i for several months now and it is an incredible machine, I have found more coins and jewelry with it in the several months than I have in several years with my other machines.
Yes, I still have a lot to learn with it but so far the way I have it set up it is doing a tremendous job.
So unless White's comes out with something even better this will be THE machine.

The V3i is very versatile. Yes it has many adjustments, but I have stated before you DON"T need to use them all. I don't understand the criticism for having too many options. They are there if you want them or you can ignore many of them. The biggest section of the menu is configuration. If you just leave the screen the way it is in the stock programs you can eliminate this whole section. You don't need to write custom programs, rename programs, adjust your tones, or change your discrimination patterns.

You G/B, set the gain, and choose a filter and recovery delay if you want. Then decide if you want to hunt in disc mode, all metal, or mixed mode. That doesn't sound that complicated to me. Why not start a new post to discuss the features needed and ones that are just frosting on the cake.

The V3i is not the detector for everyone, if it was there would be no other detectors produced.

It's the one for me and I've messed with them all. Of course to be fair.....the V3i is what I've spent the most time with but the fact stands, the interface and depth of what you can make happen rules for the big picture with me.Every main manufacturer make machines that produce success....but nothing on the planet that is such a true "all arounder" as the V3i. Combine that with Whites service in taking care of you "on a dime", the quality and balance of construction, capabilities of adapting to "you", and it being so easy and fast to interface with.....I absolutely love showing people this and getting them comfortable with it, my hands down choice. (Doesn't mean I don't use other detectors too though.)

Color me predjudiced......I don't care. Hold it,feel it,spin it around to see how it ends up naturally balancing to a hunting position with the comfort/quality of your favorite recliner.....only the "surface" of what Whites put into this machine's "supreme quality".
