In a slump

That penny looks really old. At least you know that noone had hunted there. If they had, that penny wouldn't be there.
Stoofs,I took the coin this morning and showed the Garrett md guy the coin.He said it was made before the Indianhead penny. like really freaking old. He called me a lucky rascal or something close to that.I really had no idea without a date on it.I found a lighter casing this morning, when I get it cleaned up ,I'll post it.

And I really hate to admit it, I bot an unopened fisher f2 off eBay that I am liking as much as my compadre. Fairly simple but sensitive and accurate. If the number is 32 it's a nickel. If 34 it's a square tab. Dig all the stable hits anyway if you want the good stuff. I got in a slump lately too but plan to break that slump. It's mostly about your spot, isn't it.
It really is. I've pretty much cleaned them out, all my new coin lots have all but dried up, very few coins are being collected from them now. Now all I have to do is quit hunting them as often.I've got 7 different old foundation areas that I've gained permission to hunt, I'm trying to hold off because when the fair comes to town in August, I'll need a place to hunt. I don't think the fair grounds will ever dry up completely. There is so much stuff in the ground there. I find something new, every time I go there. I think its however the coil comes across the good targets when getting drowned out by trash targets..They just had a used Deleon on ebay for $260.I went to buy it and it is gone. I'm seriously thinking of buying the cortes and cry only once rather than settle for something else because I am being cheap. My problem is that I've never had a ground balance machine. I'm not sure I would be capable to adjust it properly every time I went to a different area.

Well when I need to get out of a "slump" I just load my two mutts up in the pickup along with the detectors and i tell myself " Dammit, i'm going to find something today" and then I head out to an old ghost town and detect. :) Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but at the end of the day the two dogs had a great time running in the vast open areas and I give it all I had. Wasn't a total loss.

Well I have to let you know, on the Cortes the GB only affects the all metal mode. As far as disc it's internally set, just like the Deleon. That's the reason I went to the Deleon instead of the Cortes. Same inside circuit and for all intended purposes, in disc mode they are both internally ground balanced.
They couldn't put a GB option for disc because of how the circuit is. Changing the GB changes the VDI numbers and the graphs, so it must be set at tesoro.
But it's your party, I just wanted to give you all the infoso you know before you buy.

I seen the thread that discussed that topic last night while I was trying to learn about them. I thought I read walnut bought a used one but sent it back because it wasn't working correctly. I can't think of a handful of times that I've ever used am , other than for pinpointing.

Did you look at the Cortes? Sum mode w/ tones, notching, very interesting.
I'm a bit short of $721. The Deleon has a sum mode with tone and notching or no ? I think I would like to try the RSD coil. The tejon has tone control but a delta coil so I couldn't swap to the sabre if I wanted to.
Deleon does not have a sum mode.
With tesoro, you really don't need a screen :)
A vaquero is great, but for using your epsilon coils, maybe an outlaw (brother of Bandido II iMac, regarded as the best tesoro ever made) which comes with 3 coils and extra lower rods for easy switching. Package is $551 give or take. Or comes with just an 8" donut for less.
I love that machine!! I have the Bandido II iMac as well but those will be harder to find.

I'll be honest, I only use my Deleon for coins, then go back over the area for gold. Gold will read weird on the tesoro TID units because of the circuitry. There's no gold bar on the graph because gold comes in all over because of the size and ground.
A unit like the outlaw or vaquero (4 pin Delta coils) would be a great unit.
I don't own a Tejon but heard great things. They are more sparky and chattery as well as the Delta coils though and the GB it more touchy.

Of all currently available units with GB I will have to recommend the outlaw. Great deal, 3 coils, and can use your existing 5 pin coils.
But out of the box it can handle any situation you have from dense trash (5.75'') to moderate (8" coil) to light trash and open areas (12x10" coil). And for the price for all that you can't really beat it.
Check some YouTube videos out about the outlaw. I think you'll be impressed. :)

Stoof, may not be a sum bar but it has silver and zinc which is where your coins will fall except for the nickel. What I need is a number display to tell me that it is silver or just another square nail or big chunk of iron ringing in high tone. That is where I believe the display will shine. I gather nails sum up as 0 and silver mid 90's.If it weren't for that fact, I probably wouldn't be looking at a TID.

I don't know what the sum mode does, but the Deleon has the numbers but no sum.
In the end it's up to you!

Stefan, Thanks for your help .I'll most likely go with the outlaw 3 coil package after all. I don't need a TID,I just need to get use to digging trash out of the dirt that is super hard digging, like concrete. This is going to sound stupid but that big penny dropped out at pull tab range. It was a solid consistent tone after I stomped over top of it ,so I dug it. Same way with the Indianhead penny, knocked out just before zinc penny range and was really shallow. I can see them dropping out earlier with depth added.there is no getting around it, gotta dig the tabs, light bulb bases, small square nails if you're hunting for the older pennies. The outlaw will give me ground balance so I can start looking towards the deeper targets , hopefully, with a better repeatable track record and I already have the 4" coil that can be used with it, if needed. You were on track from the start. I need to find the rubber boot for the toggle switch.

I hope it works out!!
Yeah with ground like that and targets reading off, the screen might do more harm but in the least will be rendered useless with the targets reading that way.
Remember the outlaw had ed120 circuit, so minimum disc should either knock out small iron or make it crackle. Do some bench testing to help learn your specific unit.

I think the outlaw is a great deal. With all the coils plus your 4" you should be covered for most conditions. Plus the 3 coils each come with their own rod for easy changes.

The retune button can seem a bit confusing at first, but it's not bad. In disc mode you can push it half way for no motion all metal pinpoint and if you push it all the way in quickly it retunes, or if you hold it all the way in its either fast or slow retune all metal (same as pinpoint button on other tesoro units.
In no motion all metal it serves as a retune button for "super pinpointing" to shrink the target down.
Takes some practice but that little button has some cool features.
Most of the time with the 8" or 5.75 I just "x" in disc mode like I do with my compadre to pinpoint where the target is.
Don't get too wrapped up in the button at first, just go find stuff!!!
Good luck and happy hunting!!

OK, I bought a new Deleon. Eventually, I'll buy a Vaquero or outlaw.... My slump is still hanging with me. Nails, tabs, lead, half eaten pennies, bottle caps. Nothing good.I found this, have no clue as to what it is. Horse tack piece ,maybe.A rough faced 1920 coin, just the way my luck is running, lately.

Match box case?!?

what is the box thing?

I don't know. I was hoping someone would know.. It might be a keeper for a leather strap on horse bridle or saddle ?

How big is it?
Can you snap a pic next to something for size like a coin or a lighter?

Here it is pictured with a quarter

Hmm that's small. Would say an old pill container, but it's missing a side lol.
The world may never know.
Is it silver? If so who cares what it is. Gonna get melted soon!!! Haha.
J/k but I melt all my silver.

I believe the little box thingy is silver.

This was a pretty cool for junk find. Pratt & Lambert coach and car varnishes.I need to get back where I found it, it was a junk yard underneath the peoples back yard. The side walk is dated 1908, Mike tore up one section of the side walk 5 years ago and replaced it.He found a mercury dime laying on top of the dirt, under the old sidewalk.

if its the size of a lighter, mostly likely a match safe which is used to hold match sticks.
