I have no doubt that this will be resolved soon, I just want my machine back. I have 2 machines that I can borrow and neither one compares but at least folks are nice enough to lend tham to me. I can go hunting now.
There have not been numerous power-up problems with the X-Terra since their introduction.
A engineering redesign of the battery spring assembly was implemented to resolve the issue of power interruption.
The turn around time for servicing an X-Terra at Minelab USA is not one month.
One of the nice things about online forums (such as this one) is that people usually express their opinions.
The bad thing about online forums (such as this one) is that some of those opinions are not based on facts.
Bill and Digger...excellent posts! Upon further non forum investigation I did find out as you say Bill, the fact that the parent company of minelab has contracts for landmine sweeping equipment with other governments the united nations and also the U.S. military. Your statement about them being a ISO9001 company only strengthens the fact that they ARE CERTAINLY a very reliable company!
In regards to calling them Bill, I did just that and talked with Dick schultz he did assure me that he would take care of my problem. The "six week thing", I would have to refrain from saying it is just pure silly, ownership of anything is rated in how long you have had it. With that said I do agree with you Bill that the hours, heat, etc certainly plays a very big part in the condition of the unit. For myself I would be lucky to have 20 hours on my xt, the heat and vibration basically, not really a factor.
For the battery issue I did try different brands and also tested the output of each battery, all were satisfactory.
Reiterating what Boris said, I don't have a problem with Minelab at all, matter of fact I spent several weeks researching which metal detector that I wanted and believed the right one for me was the xt...and STILL is! Also as stated this problem is NOT wide spread. Dick Schultz verified that, saying he has seen a few other error messages but this one was a new one.
