impact

nope cant copyright updating anything.

minelab suing XP over wireless or something like that don't think there is even anything to worry about in that regard here.

so put that one to bed.

Hey AJ------Which day of the week do you use which of those detectors???----Man---what a gang of 'em!!!----You got a coupla coils to---right??

couple of coils yes :bouncy: I think what happens is I learn one - its strong/weak points then when I come across a situation then I know which one to grab currently learning the Russian detectors and its a challenge to say the least but time will tell with those although they have pulled some goodies out of hunted out spots so yeah time and learning which one to use where.

so more where than when

wonder if the Impact gets a look in :poke:

Well this is the patent description and i believe from reading it that data from computer to machine or vise versa is gonna be a conflict just as xp can update the software from a computer website to the machine is the basis of the lawsuit. I love Nokta machines and just want them to be safe.

The original patent description: A metal detector adapted to generate a transmit search signal and to receive a receive search signal, and to analyse such received search signal, wherein the detector is adapted to allow a selection of operating parameters for each of these functions, said selection being effected by the storage as data in a memory of such selection, characterised in that the detector is adapted to allow such stored data to be modified in accordance with data in an external store, further characterised in that there is a digital data communication transmission program, adapted to effect a transmission of some or all of the stored data through a data transmission means to enable a further metal detector to receive and store for use in such further detector the said data.

I have been following the lawsuit, it is one of the main reasons XP has not released version 4.0 , it has been ready for some time but basically it would be another violation until the lawsuit can be resolved , which may also be some of the reason Nokta did not release the Impact last year as projected. I realize they have been also testing to get it as right as possible,,, but it has been a very long time since we first heard the test unit was in use.

minelab are bullys its a suit they can not win but have stopped XP in their tracks with red tape, reality is minelab haven't issued an update for over 4 years for the ctx think they better sit down or I might go all jack bauer on their a$$ for false advertising.

anyway minelab will lose but it might just brake XP and that there is minelab.

I dont think Minelab should be able to be so vague and win, i hope xp wins and all detector makers can offer online updates and upgrades, it is only right!

There is a simple by past for that. Put the update information on a CD and charge a couple dollars to cover CD and Postage. That would be a way to get the needed information. I don't think they can do anything about that.

seriously updating can not be copyrighted or minelab would be suing thousands and thousands of companys and minelab would be getting sued by same because they sure didn't invent it I think someone has got their wires crossed :buds:

anyway screw minelab this is the Nokta forum and I guess we got side tracked as we wait for the Impact

I am sure Nokta have consulted their lawyers and all is fine now we are still waiting always waiting seems those who wait well do better in life...never been my strong point but I am getting better slowly :sleepy:

I reviewed the patent today. The diagrams that is included are a) detector to detector via cable and b) a detector hooked up to a computer. The write up stated updating data of the machine with new data. Very vague.

One way Nokta might be able to avoid the patent is to use Bluetooth. There are no cables and the precedence would be any smart cell phone which updates via apps and operating system. I don't know if Bluetooth was around in April of 2004 when the patent was filed.

Here is another item that may void the patent and the law suit. The CTX operating system was an open source project based upon a version of Linux. My understand of any open source operating systems, the general license don't allow you to charge for it. It is going to get interesting.

Very Vague! I hope they do not have a case, i would like to think many machines in the future could be updated by simply downloading the new code from a website. Flagship detectors from here out will be like cell phones where you can update the operating system software via computer, once this lawsuit is settled we will see the First Texas machine that was promised last year, the Impact, and the new XP software. If minelab wins then these other companies will have to pay a fee to have this ability and it will affect the price of the machines, and that is why nothing is being released at this time because pricing cannot be firmed up. Just my opinion , do not know this for a fact but it makes a lot of sense why nothing that was promised last year has been delivered yet.

Cannot comment on other companies but the hold up on our end has nothing to do with this subject. Impact will be released as soon as we get the updates, which we have implemented based on feedbacks from testers, finalized and tested.
