john, i've only owned mine for4 months now and haven't been out in 2 months, that being said................I've found that disc, on 1(lowest) sens.7 works beautiful, may want to ask gene edwards,he has the same monster I have ! I have a serious knee problem but my best find to date is.............9.3 GRAM 14 K made in Italy square curb link gold bracelet and trust me ,there's no feeling like that in the world to unearth gold? Hello John.

I have the Excalibur II 1000. Love it.

Here are my settings:

Dry sand:
Discriminate 1
Sensitivity 10
Volume 1 o'clock
Threshold 1 o'clock
pin point

Wet sand; same as dry sand

Salt water:
Discriminate 5
Sensitivity 7
Volume 2 o'clock
Threshold 2 o'clock
pin point

I had to slightly adjust my settings in the salt water because the Excalibur was a bit unstable when I put it into discriminate to check on a target. I dig almost everything but I have found that those darn buried in the sand beer and pop cans sound pretty good. The do have a slightly different sound than say a gold ring.

John: This is my second season with my Excal 2 1000. I usually start out with my Disc. 1 Sens. 9or10 Vol. 12 o'clock Threshold barely audible. Now I may change one or all according to the conditions. When I get in the water I'm usually Disc. 4to6 Sens.11to2 o'clock Vol. according to waves and outside noise. I prefer pinpoint and switch to Disc. to confirm good target or iron. I hope this helps. And it don't take long to recover your investment +.It will be interesting to see the different responses. HH :minelab:

Well, I must say experiment with all the settings in all the conditions. You'll just have to find the one that works best for you. Luck to ya.

John, I have lots to learn about the Excalibur, for what its worth here are my settings.

Wet sand - pin point, Disc at 1, sens. 5 to 6, threshold up to a slight buzz, volume up 1/2 to 3/4

You asked about dry sand, where i hunt its just full of trash so 90 % of my hunting is wet sand. When in the water up to my ankle / knee I go from pinpoint to Disc

Not to promote any disrespect...but the audio response from the Sovereign/Excal sounds like a French horn to me. I prefer the quicker response detectors.
