between turning the sense down and the smaller coil you just might squeak a few out? good luck......
Glad I read this thread cause I've got permission on our Fairgrounds (1905) that of course has been hunted and is pretty high in trash. I've hunted it quite a few times before with not much success for the older coins and only a few silvers. Lawns pretty well manicured and 70's & 80's coins can be found as deep as 7-8" range, very few wheats even at that depth. With the newer coins that deep (for the most part) I haven't been hunting there for quite awhile? There are a few areas there on the main Midway that I have avoided in the past because of the trash. If I've avoided them...then so have most others. Now that I know the et better it's time to go back and try another approach. The grounds keeper has been there for 44yrs and said that in that time only myself and two others hunt there? He also said the other two haven't had much success either? There has to be some areas, possibly edges, that the older coins haven't sunk outta sight or the duff hasn't built up on top the coins? So far I haven't been able to find them? Only places I haven't at least snooped around a bit is his residence on the grounds right at front gate and under the grand stands.....lol. He just might let me try....who knows? "IF" a guy got permission under the stands he'd have to dodge all the equiptment stored, etc. and crawl around dodging overhead crap. I'm about outta places to hunt so it may be time to hit the ol Fairgrounds again with a different approach? Might even break out the old GSII, set that notch, and hit the tab/iron infested area in front of the beer stand I've avoided in the past? Hit it with both the Etrac/small coil and also the GSII........
With all that said..... A Fairgrounds not heavily hunted sounds great but I live in Podunk, not much for population so really not many coins in the first place? There's maybe 11-12,000 people in the whole damned county and it's 120mi long and 60mi wide......and they "might" show up once a year for a week....lol
