If you own any detector, you need the Garrett Pinpointer

I just got home from a spot I thought might be old homesteads up in the woods a few blocks south of us and I took a few coins but not much... My Pro pointer worked great every time up there but I did notice something today... With my gloves on I'd try to turn my Pro Pointer on, but as soon as the light came on she'd shut down... It got me wondering if the on\off switch isn't activated also in part by the warmth of our fingers because without a glove on using just my fingers she turned on and off perfectly every single time without fault but with my glove on it was totally a no-go for staying turned on...

I too was very impressed with the PI Pistol Probe but my brother told me he heard at a dealer they are built cheap... Has anyone read any reviews on it...? Going on hearsay alone is never good unless a bunch of people say stay away from it... I'd hate to discount it if they are really as good as they look like on the various YouTube video's...

The Garrett Pro Pointer is hands down top rated by everyone I've talked to and as an owner it just speeds up target recovery time so much... I really like mine...

I agree this is a must have, and I only played with one in our local MD shop. I had a sunray on my MXT and the propointer is HANDS DOWN a better tool

Sonny, I remember when I first got the Pro Pointer in 2008, I raved about how great it was on a couple of the forums. I compared it to TV remote control. You may say you don't need it, but once you have one you'll never do without it.

John-Edmonton, the late Bill Revis and just about any other poster that actually owned a Pro Pointer were extremely positive, but a large contingent of dirt fishers who hadn't used the amazing little unit yet were negative.

I remember a lot of the responses from non-owners that were basically, "I've been detecting XX number of years and got along just fine without one and I don't need one now," or "if you're good enough at pinpointing you don't need a pinpointer," or "my Cen-Tech from Harbor Freight works just fine at a fraction of the cost,"

You won't find many saying that anymore, since it seems like now most of the dirt fishers I meet or talk to use one. The Pro Pointer has taken over the detecting community in a pretty short period of time.

I wish they would make a waterproof model

I also wish they made a waterproof model and I think they are missing a viable market! We all love out ProPointers but I really don't want to void my warranty by gooping it up (but know it does work).

I plan to do some river detecting this summer and will go with the 'vacuum seal' method to use mine in depths up to 3'. I would buy a second ProPointer if they would make it waterproof...would even pay $20 or 30 bucks more. Think it would only require a waterproof on/off switch, perhaps an additional O-ring or flat rubber seal for the battery compartment screw on top, and believe they could save the cost of the light as I don't think it would be necessary or useful in the water (could be wrong on this point).

I am planning to visit Garrett's Garland location since I live in the area. While there, I will be checking out the AT Pro & AT Gold. I have two X-terras but want to find a waterproof detector for using in the steams near my summer mountain place. Also, I am now trying to buy 'made in the USA' products so now the research begins. Who knows, may start detecting America with only made in the US products!:clapping:

I would not go metal detecting without my Garrett ProPointer.

Love it and like John says, you dig smaller holes. When my AT Pro finds something, I probe the ground surface with the ProPointer to see if the object is near the surface. If it is, I know my plug hatch can be shallow and about 3" diameter. If the ProPointer doesn't go off, I know the coin is deep and my plug will be about 6" in diameter and much thicker. I then put the ProPointer on my drop cloth and start scooping dirt out of the hole onto it. When I hear it go off the digging is done.
