I'll see if I can dig up a few review threads for you Ron too. I thought I posted a link or two for that coil on that to Findmall threads already in the sticky? Maybe I meant to be didn't.

Also, I'm planning to sit down here in a bit and figure out how to use Paint to measure the side of that bigfoot mystery coil John found. I figure since the width of the shaft should be 1" (?) then I can capture a piece of the shaft width wise and then draw (dot) it across the face of the coil and see how many times it fits to arrive at the size of the thing. Now, nobody beat me to that here because I'm having a smoke or two before I try.

WOW did i hunt for this photo the 8" Tornado coil is on the left and the 11" Coinsearch coil is on the right .....by the way it is a Photo in a post by Ron i think 2007  Jim

How can that coinsearch coil be so much bigger then the Tonado 8" coil That coinsearch coil is at least a few inches larger in diameter unless the photo is playing tricks on my eyes Jim

Because the 8" BBS or Tornado coils are both 7 & 1/4" in diameter. You had me for a minute, though...Until I realized that. The brackets on the coinsearch coil first made me realize it's the 8" one, then I remembered the actual size of the Minelab 8" BBS or Tonarado coils. That's why many prefer the 8" Tornado for a trash coil. Very small coil but with excellent depth, but I still prefer the 5.5" Sun Ray S-5 because when I want max separation in heavy trash that means for me the smallest round coil I can find. The Excelerator 5" coil I think is actually smaller than 5", unless the blurb I posted in the coil sticky with the remark from somebody was talking about the Ferret hot head coil or something. Can't remember.

Ok so what your saying is the 8" coinsearch coil has the bat wing brackets and the 11" coinsearch has straight brackets like in the mystery big foot coil photo ? this is INSANE there has to be at least 1 photo of this darn coil :lmfao: Jim

Sorry bud it would look more like the picture on top you posted with the 12 inch coil. It doesn't look like the coinsearch coil is 3 inches bigger then tornado coil.

Yep, you got it. The *known* 8" coils have a that bat wing type extra brackets on the coil face, where the supposed 11" coil doesn't have any on it.

OK, here's where we get a bit closer to confirming this is indeed a picture of Bigfoot. Notice the pic below. I cropped off the rough width of the coil mount ON THE SHAFT in the picture and then pasted that on the coil side by side to measure the distance. 5 of them fit, and with the 1 in the center and then of course you could put 5 more on the other side of the coil, that makes 11. NOW, for the BIG question...How wide is that mount on a Sovereign shaft. Not the width of the coil ears, mind you, but the width of that black mount on the shaft. If it's close to 1" then I think we (or should I say John) have bagged the beast. I am not at home so I can't measure my shaft's mount to see.

Once I get an aswer on that (I searched the net and can't find the width of that mounting area) then if it confirms things we can stick John's pics in the sticky with the proper classification of the best, either being an 11" coil or a odd rare version of the 8". I would think even if it's not exactly 1" wide at the mount being able to stick 11 on the face of the coil is for sure going to mean it's got to be an 11" coil?

Just got a new Tornado 800,need one for the Annual Buckeye Hunt at New Concord, Ohio August 19th. Maybe this year won't be the only Sovereign in the comp hunt this is in Critter's and Elton's back yard. The little Tornado is deep and hits very hard and quick on targets, which allows for a faster coil sweep. HH Ron

Welp, just got home and measured my coil ears on my S-5. I couldn't measure the shaft because I use Whites tall man rods on my coils for my land rig and the Whites is not as wide as you have to use two rubber washers on each side of the shaft to make up the gap for a Minelab coil. My water shaft is original Minelab hardware but it's in the garage and I didn't feel like going out there to measure the actual shaft mount. The distance between the ears should be the same on all coils meant for the Sovereign anyway, so measuring the gap between the ears on a coil should be solid proof anyway.

By the way, a great source for rubber washers is the fix-it isle for sinks at home improvement stores. You just have to drill out the hole in the center a bit. Make sure you take a right sized washer with you as they have different sizes.

Anyway, so I measured the gap betwen the ears on my S-5 coil and it's almost a full 1", so it looks like John bagged the right beast here! Good job John! :clapping: Sticking the pic of the now confirmed species of coil in the coil sticky, with of course credit going to John for a long hard hunt to bag this thing.

That is the 11" coinsearch alright Critter good job:thumbup: , i used my photo editor to lighten the picture . Jim

The credit goes to John. He slayed the beast, I just measured how big of a catch it was.

Hey Ron, I dug up what I could find on the Platypus for the Sovereign and posted it in the sticky.
