if you are in your 60s how long can you swing your md

I think maybe a 2 part type question? Swinging is one thing , I think how many times you dig targets....should some how be considered?

What machine are you using?? I can swing my Vaquero all day. My CZ was a problem, couldn't hunt more than a couple hours till I hip mounted it. Hunted with it last Sat. for almost 5 hrs and could have gone longer.

I'm 62, I can swing pretty much all day. I take a break every couple of hrs. Now my knee's are another thing, sometimes they don't bother me. but when they do , I'm done in a couple of hrs.

Hey Gringoo,Whenever I make a hunt with my main digging buddies I usually have to make a about a 90 mile drive(one way) so that cuts our digging time some. We still manage to get in at least 5-6 hrs. diggin so as to make our gathering last long as possible. It isn't so much the detecting we enjoy as the meeting up visiting and sharing our digs with one another.I hunt with a Tejon , but lately have started using my Amigo II also. I think I may have already mentioned, my knee and bone proplems(back surgery in 62-3) but not my 2 open heart, and colon resection surgeries since 2000.It is difficult getting down and up from my knees the first few digs, but it usually gets easier after a few digs and I get limbered up.Takes a couple of days to recoupe from an all day hunt. The drive(sitting) is worse for me I think than the walking and digging. It is surely worth it though and I feel it is actually better for me by keeping me active. Of course I try and be active in other things between the long hunts, like yard work,30 min. walks, and doing stuff in my shop. I made 74 in July. Keep moving and Thanking God for letting you, and you will be digging longer. HH, Charlie

Depends on 1) How many targets I dig (as mentioned by Left4) and how hard/difficult the digging is. One and a half to three hours usually pulls me up. Love the activity, and it sure beats sitting at home/work...I'm sure it's one of the things that keeps me going. HH

I am 61 and I swing my compadre all day and then I swing it all night in my sleep. Seriously I do hear that thing beeping at night sometimes.

At 63 it all depends on the quality and number of finds. And the weather. And if the wind is blowing. And if I got my to do list compleated. Worrying if the beer is cold or not. If the fish are biting. Lot of pressure answering a question as complicated as yours. Getting out in the elements getting excercise enjoying life until you get tired. Come home get my butt eat out because I forgot something. Ready to go tommorrow. HH :minelab:

At 63 I can hunt and dig all day by taking rest breaks and sitting down for a few minutes. The 2.2 pound Cibola makes it easy. My digging shovel is much heavier than the detector !

thanks Charlie

you set a good example for me, i have no digging freinds but i enjoy it anyway, i find being addicted to mding is you never no what you will pull out of the ground, i found a school soccer feild loaded with coins oldest quarter being 1968 others in the 70s, not silver but old to be sitting for so long, i dont think anyone md it.
i use the cutlass umax with cleansweep coil it gets a little heavy after awile and i have the lighter version, and after 2 hours iv had enough.

thnks

i seem to last as long as i can take a pee break, as im adicted to coffee, whitch makes it hard to hunt longer than the 2 hours, plus beat at digging at least 100 holes and swinging my cutlass with cleansweep coil whitch gets heavy after a while, and i have the light one.

thanks

I'm 66 and can go all day. Hard digging can make things go slower but it does provide a break from the actual swinging itself.
