Identifying this bottle

Hello, of all things I have this bottle that I can't find any info on. It's the centre one with GDE CHARTREUSE, which I'm assuming the GDE means 'grade'. It's obviously 1800's age, possibly Australian origin, but it has no number or letter in the base, just your typical deep 'V'. The neck shape is interesting too.The glass has tiny bubbles, and a 'ringed' effect in the glass body, as if it's been turned on a lathe. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Angela:)

Your really do great forming up one nice collection good job.Not sure on that bottle but sort am thinking Chartreuse is a wine and quite possibly it could be a wine bottle. Just speculating on it hope it helped.Happy hunting.The GDE could be the manufacturers stamp.

Probably a French wine or ale. Bottle is a "turned in mold" thus the "rings." It has a "ladies leg" neck but I can't tell if the lip is applied or not. It appears to have an etched logo??? Nice find dating back into the 1800s. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Angela,

Chartreuse is a trademark used for liqueur usually green or yellow in color. Originally French. "La Grande Chartreuse" http://france-for-visitors.com/photo-gallery/alps/monastere-grande-chartreuse.html was the chief monastery of the Carthusian order near Grenoble, France, and the cross on the bottle is a link to that order. This listing on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PUB-GRANDE-CHARTREUSE-1932-LIQUEUR-PERES-CHARTREUX_W0QQitemZ7241651619QQcategoryZ117816QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem shows a 1932 add with the same labeling above the printed label as you have on your bottle. This listing on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PUBLICITE-LIQUEUR-CHARTREUSE-1956-PA59_W0QQitemZ6269532527QQcategoryZ50230QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem shows a great example of the labeling on a 1956 bottle that's identical to that on your bottle. This link http://www.chartreuse.fr/pa_history3_uk.htm is the official Chartreuse site. It shows an 1852 bottle with raised lettering, what you might expect of a bottle that age. Perhaps the painted-on or etched-on labeling, not sure from the pics, as on your bottle is a later adaptation. Let us know if you find a definitive answer. del.

Hello Del, I'm giving you 3 gold stars for each of those links! I found out the same info as you, and so far, my bottle is dated around the 1870's. The writting is etched onto the glass, and a company back at that time bought the rights to use the name as it is etched onto the bottle. I got a good write up from someone on another forum. But I really appreciate your interest and know it would have taken you some time in researching this for me! If you ever come to Aussieland, have a beer on me!
Cheers Angela:twodetecting::cheers::)

I'll take you up on that beer, one day. I've got 9 more years before my 25th wedding anniversary, at which time I promised my wife that trip. del.

CHARTREUSE is a rather strong Liquer..I used to drink it with Chris Penn..(Chris was an actor I worked with on 2 films)..Too bad he died earlier this year
