Idea, dumb or not?

With all the requests for tesoro to come out with detectors just like the competition, id rather see them keep doing the unorthodox.....on that note Has anyone tried an integrated digger/pinpointer? Maybe treat the blade as the coil, or flip the thing around and the handle would be the PP, with replaceable parts? It sure would be nice not to have to keep changing tools as much and carry that much less.

When tesoro will have no choice but to make changes. If they keep going without trying to make changes to the design of there detectors, they will be doomed. We are now at a crucial time in the new development of metal detection technology.Smart phones will soon be more powerful than some of the best home computers.Tesoro detectors will soon be thought of as old outdated technology if they do not soon think about new designs. No,they are already considered outdated, but so many have grown to like tesoro detectors sense the 1980's.This has kept them in a good standing on sells. The Xpdeus is a prime example of the future of metal detector design. There are so many ideas that can be thought of but the circle of metal detector buyers is only so big. They are not like smart phones were the profits are though the roof because of sales.Only so many people will buy a metal detector. You integrate computer electronics into a metal detector and you are going to have one smart metal detector period. For new detectorist looking for a new detector, will not even consider a tesoro because the detectors will be just to outdated. :-D

if its not broke DON'T fix it

Disagree with tesoro ever being "outdated". This mentality runs rampant in our society today...the next new phone, the next bigger faster computer, always on the search to be on top in the technological gatdgets . When you understand what a metal detector does and how it functions, then you also understand that you dont need 2500 bucks worth of technology to dig up a quarter in a playground. You will also understand that this is a hobby, and the reward is in the hunt, not in making a living at it or having a better detector than your neighbor. This mentality wants to be able to determine whats in the ground 100% before they spend their precious effort of removing it from the ground for inspection. I have had the big and fancy machines...and sold em...and I still have my tesoros and thats what I use...because they work. Tesoro will never be outdated for that very reason...because they work, and they are within the budgets of most anyone who cares to give detecting a serious try. Thats just what I think.

I definitely don't think Tesoros are outdated, but I, like many, would like to see some minor changes made. For example, most Tesoro owners I know have made it clear they would like to see the multi tone arrangement on the Golden placed on other units as well. The Vaqueo most of all. Hasn't happened, even though it does not strike me as a difficult or unreasonable request.

Now, Tesoro is owned the the Giffords and they are free to do whatever they wish, its their company. But I have noticed some Tesoro users moving away to other manufacturers to get the features they want, on detectors that function equally well.

This is normal in any industry, but it should really be noticable to Tesoro since their users are as loyal to the brand as Minelab users are. I suppose only the Giffords will know if they are beginning to notice a drop in their sales as a result. If they are (and I emphasize "if"), this might be a key reason why.

Again, I do not see most Tesoro users asking for wild changes to any unit, like adding high tech digital screens, but some of the changes being requested seem prefectly reasonable to me.

I have a question for those who say Tesoro's are out dated.
But first let me say this.
Each month our club has a meeting and we have been getting 15 Plus good displays from our members. The member whom is in charge or reports on metal detecting said the finds were getting harder to find.
My question is this.
If I am using a Tesoro which is outdated. How come I am still finding quantities of coins? Shouldn't the other club member using these more advanced machines have foundit all ???
None of my finds has been deeper than a few inches.

On your first aspect think the handle which would be the pinpointer would take a lot of strain but sounds feasible...not going to happen as companies are out to make profits and certainly two products into one would lead to less profits and would be cost prohibitive.

As far as Tesoro's....why fix what ain't broke especially when they make affordable products which work....and work well especially when it comes to gold jewelry...and last but not least don't break the bank when purchasing....

Here we go again.

I was bored again.I love my Tesoros! :throw:

Man, after reading a bunch of your posts, it sure doesn't seem like it!

I don't want Tesoro to stop dead for another ten years because they came out with the Outlaw. They got to have something up there sleeve.Even if they made a vaquero with dual disc circuits like the tejon. The Vaq with two disc would be a big improvement. And a trigger toggle under the control box. They are not getting off the hook for another ten years because they added a couple things to the old eldorado. They better have some plans or i am going to be pissed! :biteme:

I replaced my 10 year old Coinstrike with a 13 year old design on the Golden. The C$ works fine, but after a decade I am sick of listening to it and looking at it.

I need and appreciate what Tesoro offers. Which is a reasonably powerful, reliable metal detector in a fun, lightweight format at a nice price.

I for one am going from a Minelab back to a "outdated" tone detector. I found the bigger better detectors to complicated for my small brain. The learning curve was just to much for me so I hope I can get a Tesoro, and a language I can understand

As to the original thread - pinpointer/digger I like the idea, but think it would probably be fairly spendy by the time it was built strong enough to both dig and protect the electronics.

Thanks Bill :) it was just something I thought about over the weekend. I even thought of the PP being a cartridge that twist locked into the handle of the digger to remove for cleaning/ servicing, or using separate if that were wanted. Oh and, no displays on the PP.

Go ahead and fab one up! see if you like it, write up a report, take pictures, and post it on the modification forum.
Thats how we learn.

ha give me a outlaw with tones naa its not broke no need to fix it

I was thinking along the lines of a pinpointer that is really skinny like an ice pick. Then you could probe with it and find the exact location of the coin before digging. It might be hard to come up with the electronics that would fit that package and still be stout. Oh, well.
