I think I found a steel cent

I was out yesterday with my F19 and this came out of the hole with another coin, I thought at first it was a old washer but I started to wonder because of its size if it could actually be a steel cent so I chipped away at it and it indeed could be an old steel cent. Here are the pics I took so you can judge for yourself if that is what it is. It has a VDI of 10-11 on the F19. The first 2 pics are of it as it came out of the ground, the last 3 pics are of it compared to a wheat cent.

Ground really attacks that. Could be. Ive seen reports of other people digging a spill with a steel, steel is destroyed.

Yeah, over the years I've dug a few rusted blobs of dirt that I suspected were once steelies. Yours, in fact, coinspader, looks pretty good and think you are right on what it is. HH jim tn

Found a few spills over the years with steels in the cluster. I would agree.

I think so too… I have found what is left of two of them with other coins in the hole… they looked very similar to what you have.
Most likely if the other coins were silver or wheats, I would guess it is a steel penny.

The coin with it was a 1903 Barber dime which is much earlier than 1943 but I think it is possible both coins could have been in the same pocket spill.

Yep, typically a rusty looking round spot in a clump of dirt. HH jim tn
