I need some advice...

MEW

New member
I've been out w/ the AT Pro twice now and have noticed a few things while digging in playground/beach sand:
I've hit/found several pennies - always clearly reading low 80's up to 8-9" - no problem.
Every once in a while, the Pro will give me several readings ranging from 5 up to low 70's - when I dig it, there have been a couple occaissions where i find nothing.
My concern is that I might be having these "false readings" i'm reading so much about. My challenge is that I'm brand new to this and the machine does seem reliable most of the time.
If I am experiencing the falsies, wouldn't I be experiencing them all the time instead of once in a while.
It might very well be that I'm in highly mineralized sand. I have been regrounding regularly with a grounding of up near 90 - which i gather is on the high side.
Any advice sure would be welcomed.
Thanks!

set it one or two postive and it may work just fine in the sand.

The AT PRO can locate some of the smallest of metal objects, tiny rivets, piece of foil, or the remnant of the head of a nail, no bigger than a gnat's head. I've spent more than my share of time in volley ball sand lots chasing one of these miniature pennies around, where it appeared that there was nothing there visually but the PRO said so and 99% I eventually found them. Some "targets", I got so tired of playing sandlot ping pong I finally just wrote it off and left! They won and I retained my somewhat limited insanity.

The earlier problem was a continual problem, not intermittent. IMHO your not experiencing any kind of machinery failure, you're just questioning your entry into the Twilight Zone.

I rarely experience falsing with pro. There is something in the hole 99% of the time . Do you have a propointer MEW? I have dug holes before and run my coil back over and no audio, but propointer finds the target. most of time while digging the hole I probly turned the target on edge and the detector coudnt find target.

I have chased small targets that even the Propointer had a hard time finding. In all my hunting with the PRO I may have given up on two targets that disapeared. Pretty much if it beeps there's metal. This is why I think the PRO will be good in prospecting. I hope to find out in a few months.... Colorado baby!!!!
