I need a set of headphones that are super rugged and are user friendly, I seen a lot of different headphones I now what's out there, but I want people who have actually used them, plus my hearing is not great thanks!

I have the koss headphones and I hate them!

Thanks Cadman, are they still being made?

SunRay Golds are my choice.

Sunray Pro-Golds.

Hey they look great, thanks Larry and Mark!

Rats if you can find them.

Wouldn't rats be hard to put by your ears? Do you use live or dead ones?

I prefer live ones, they keep your ears warmer during the winter.....

Hank68, Rats are no longer made, that is the problem.

Look at the posting times of mine and Larry's post (8:55) and just because he's a moderator his got put above mine  j/k

The Sunray's are pretty nice headphones,
Real leather ear cups instead of vinyl or plastic!
Switchable volume limiter!
Dual volume controls, and these controls have a Real feel to them, unlike the cheap feel and poor quality of many other headphones!

At one time I would have never considered paying the kind of money it cost for a set of headphones like these, but I don't think that way anymore. Now, I was able to save a fair amount of money when I bought the two sets I have now, I watched and waited and I landed them used for about $70.00 each.

I used inexpensive headphones for years and upgraded to Grey Ghost Ultra's. Very crisp and clear,,,love them. Oh, my hearing is sub par also.

Sign me up for the lousy hearing group, are we somehow attracted to this hobby?

I'm funny though, I want to hear what's going on around me whether it's in the woods (there's everything from rattlesnakes to wild boar here) or the 'hood. Having one ear open to your surroundings is just a good idea to me.

So I opted for the one sided phones and was able to buy the DetectorPro Rattlers locally. Very happy with them. Now if they would make one sided Pro Golds I'd be sorely tempted from what I've heard.

I think wearing a live rat on only one side of my head might look odd but then again with the teens I see around here it might start a fad...

 I think I just beat you by a few seconds Mark but really, a good set of headphones can pay for themselves with one good find Hank. IMHO good headphones is the #1 must have accessory after picking out your detector, at least for those who take the hobby seriously.

Thank you all who posted very helpful information about the headphones, I think I will go with the sun ray pro gold!

Killer B's are my favorite. Like the tone of them over the grey ghosts. Both top of the line quality.

If you have a hunting buddy or MD club or a dealer close to you, go visit and try all the headphones you can find. I have bought a brand name set because of the reviews they received on the internet, could not stand them. They were well made everything as advertised, just couldn't stand the tone. Nothing worse than trying to hunt with a set of headphones you don't like.

What about some with built in spectacles? I don't have to listen for rattlers, but I sure do have to watch out for copperheads.

Well, now that some replies are in the next thing to consider is how much are you willing to pay or to put into a set of headphones?
Figure that out and then put a list of headphones together that fit that price range.

Next might be new or used?
For me I took used and got my $129.00 sunray's for $70.00, I actually ended up with two sets of them, the second set is out on loan to my brother.

What I found out about headphone tone is that people get used to something and when they change and everything sounds differently then they don't like the new sound. That don't mean the sound new sound is bad, but its so different that its sometime not worth the time it would take to get used to.
