I have a pic request.

If your looking for something to paten then here it is!
A head band light with a mercury switch on one side of the band, when you look down the light comes on, when you look up it goes off! I used it years ago for hunting city curbs at night, with street light I didn't need the light to see to search, but I did for retrieving the targets (digging) it worked perfect. The switch could be rotated to adjust the timing of the light coming on and going off.

Hey Dodge, that pretty cool for a last minute deal! Field expedience we called it in the Army.

MarkCZ I can see you take your detecting serious and you put a lot of thought into your ideas, very cool stuff ya got there! I like the plug digger which has the feature (presumably) to push out the plug? I LOVE that. And that mercury switched light, also a neat idea! Thanks to all for sharing your creations and your passion for the hobby. Keep it coming guys, this is getting good.

Detector headlight, I know I'll get some slack for night hunting, but this little setup works really good.
I now have them on all my detectors.

These ideas are awesome.... Best thread ever.

Ooooh, I have a ballcap with LED lights in the brim.... I am going to use your idea and make them automatic! Love it! Thanks for posting that automatic headlamp, Mark!!

One bag and everything in one bag.

Here is one my brother Ron actually came up with. He bought a sling thingy, then decided there was some things he liked and didn't like about it and then he came up with this.

All you have to do is to put a lose nylon tie on your detector near the grip and then hook the bungee to it, adjust the strap to get the weight just right and you have almost no load detecting. Its instant hook and unhook, one nylon tie for each detector and one sling.

My brother made this one for me, but he never took any pictures of it, so I arrange the pictures and I was also the model.

Coin holder for coin cleaning.
Its aluminum plate,
It was tooled! (machine shop)

One side holds two quarters,
Two Nickels,
Nine dimes.

The other side holds thirteen pennies.

I can't take credit for this one either, brother Ron made this for me several years ago.

Yes, the steel plate on top of the tube is used to push it in the ground, the peg on the side just below plate is foot operated to push the ram back down, pushing out the plug. I did make a mistake in the design, the ram peg should have been arranged opposite the foot plunge plate, I do plan on taking it apart fixing it. The top of the ram has a 1/2" rod that runs up the center of the handle for a guild. I also totally cut and built the plug cutter.

Didn't really make this and I did get the idea from Dave Johnson of First Texas.
The "Hank" Coil wrap.
I hate the coiled up cables that kink up after being wrapped around the detector shaft, Dave said that he had went to the company on more than one occasion trying to get them to change the manuals for the setup and wrapping the coil cables around the shafts, he says it really bad for the cables and for me I always hated the kinked up mess whenever I change coils.

I make one starter loop (flex loop) just above the coil then I run the cable straight up the shaft and make a "Hank" up close to the control housing.
I know I'll get some slack from this too. LOL!

Air Test Coin Swing Stick.
I made these out of some plastic stripes that I recovered from the trash at work.

I cut one up in short pieces and then I cut a wide "V" in one piece, then a little narrower "V" in the second piece, stacked them, glued them together, then glued them to one end of a full strip.

Well I guess that's all my 30 years of innovations!

Next?

How can anyone follow that?? You, Sir, are an inspiration. Thank you for posting.

Ha! I knew the Badger Bros couldnt resist! They turn out some cool gear:clapping::rofl: Love that fast sandscoop with the hoe there, Dodge!!

Hey MarkCZ, I've been running that straight 'Hank' cable set up for the past few years on both my rigs too...instead of collapsing the shaft, a guy can just push the upper detent button and pop the rig apart at the top knuckle right below the control box, and fold the whole thing in half for transport..the camlocks after a while get all jammed up and are just in the way anyhow, so I remove them...plus I run a very long rod set-up, so theres more of just a small "u" shaped length of coil cable left over up at the box, not a full coil circle...

I think the next mod I may do will be to drill a few holes and route the coil cable inside the shaft for those of us that never change coils, or adjust/collapse the lower shaft, it would make for a clean package...

Some guy posted a cool headphone cable done that way on the AtPro on the Modification forum @a month ago...I liked the looks of that and thought to just up and do the coil cable at the same time...of course a guy would have to cut the cable and do a bit of splicework if the main fitting is not easy to work with..the AtPro coil or headphone fitting is not easy to take apart or resolder...so a cut and splice would be something we could manage I think..
Great stuff here guys!:beers:

Magnet Stick!
1/2" PVC pipe,
Two stacked rare earth magnets!
Well, I figured the magnet stick might slip buy as an un-noticed item LOL some don't see a real use for it while metal detecting, but it in fact is a pretty cool little tool.
First me and brother Ron were hunting an area that for some reason had a lot of little pieces of iron and when we would pinpoint the target and dig the hole and start in with the pinpointers we were finding these little bits and pieces of iron, so we take these magnets and stir the entire hole then stick the propointer back in and BANG there is the target. Sometimes its amazing how much stuff these magnets drag out of a hole. Its a tool that's not always needed, but its really good to have and it packs small and is very light.

Next they are great just to test and item to be ferrous or not.

Ours is made from 1/2" PVC, but a 3/4" version might be just a tad better, I get the round rare earth magnets from Fleabay for little to nothing and I stacked two in the end of each magnet stick, three magnets may be a little better.

The handle is just a glued on collar, another short piece of pipe just long enough for a PVC cap, now on a 3/4" version the cap end could be rigged with a screw on setup and the inside tube could be used for storage.

Wow, there's some great gadgets out there along with some great thinkers.

Mark, thats one cool plug digger you fab'd there. I likes it!
How well does it work in the real world?

At one time was think'n of something along those lines myself.

Well, its a long handle and so that kicks it out of using it in public parks!
During a HOT summer and a long dry spell the plugs can get so hard that they are to hard to push back out!
But, outside of those conditions it works GREAT! it will take a perfect six inch deep plug and it puts it back!

If you look at the picture that's from the top down you can see a center hole in the ram, you can mark the target pinpoint with a Golf Tee and align that center hole up with it like a sight and cut the plug.

Well I may have a couple of little things that were modified for metal detecting. One is a hand digger.
The digger came from Tractor Supply, and it comes with a "V" notch in the tip of the blade. Well if you sharpen that notch it works GREAT when detecting in areas where smaller roots get in the way, roots un to like a 1/2" maybe a little bigger are easily cut with the "V" just sung the notch on the root and a little twist and push and it cuts them like butter! WAY better than trying to saw or chew through them. The digger is pretty strong as well, but it has its limitations as far as prying LARGE rocks out of the ground.
For ten bucks, it cuts roots better than a hundred tool!

Big Brother is watching this thread, LoL!
The famous "Pull Ring Puller"
Well, my brother just sent me some pictures of another apparatus of his idea and design, although in one of the later version he ask me if I could come up with something.
He actually uses this thing to pull, pull rings (beaver tail tabs) from our city park, yes! pull them without digging them. Our city park has "Millions" of these tabs from around 3.5" to 5" (1965 to 1975 depth range)

The later version I made from cutting away part of the blade of a flat bladed screwdriver. That's the one pictured with the ruler next to it. From the picture of the one I made the hook is looking like its getting worn out.
