I got two words for the TRX.

In my humble opinion the TRX appears better for retrieving deep silver without damaging the coin then the Garrett

Update! Update!

I have now used the TRX for 2 months and would like to share my analysis of it so far. But first let me respond to some of the issues mentioned.

Cheaper plastic? Really? How do we know without smashing a few? It's just liter with a slick surface, so gives the feel of cheaper. So could be improved upon.

Not loude enough with earphones on? I can't hear any pointer with earphones covering my ears, so I just slide them below my ears while digging. Now the pistilprob was tough to hear! So big improvement there! Had to stick my good ear in the hole with that one in the noisy environments . No more ring around the ear for me. Not to bad mouth the pistilprob it helped allot on the deep stuff, and with its unique shape it kept most curiosity seekers at a distance. Was always worried about getting shot by ower Barney Fifes out there though. Many people have been shot dead in this country for holding things that look much more less than a gun than the pistilprob. You would not know that though if you just see mainstream government media.

As far as a Garrett performing as good on distance in the field, not a chance in heck! There is no way a Garrett is going to get 4 inches on a quarter. I got rid of my Garrett because I was tiered of digging deep holes only to find my target later inside the plug that my TRX would have found instantly.

The TRX not picking up metal that a Garrett did. Just operater error. Some metal was picked up while it was ground grabbing. Takes awhile to get used to that.

Now let me address some things I don't like about it.

Takes about 4 seconds to ground grab. I'm not an electronic engineer but I think that just goes with its long range abilities. A necessary evil you might say.

Another issue I don't like is in trashy areas it may pick up trash at top of hole and sound like it's deep in hole. This is something else that maybe a necessary evil, I don't know.

I bought mine because I wanted to save time on shallow clad that's not worth the effort of digging a plug and to prevent damage to valuable deep coins. The TRX does exactly what I hoped it would do. I always thought it was silly to have to dig a plug to find a coin 2 lnches below the surface. Now I easley pop them with a gasket scrapper. Saves time saves grass saves my joints from pain and for those reasons saves money because you bring home more because you are now more efficient.

For the real shallow stuff I find it easier to just use my minlab pointer. It fires up faster and scans ground faster with its side scan ability. So yes I carry 2 pointer in my bag. I already know how deep most targets are from my detecter and know which pointer to grab before my knee touches the ground.

I can see why some hunters might not really need a TRX, but for the deep coin hunter it is awesome. No more damaged coins. And no more elusive targets that hide on the side of the hole just out of reach of your average pointer.

Here is a pic of what was my most valuable coin to date , that is before I gashed it with my shovel because my average pointer could not tell me where it was.

WARNING!!! WARNING!! VERY GRAPHIC PHOTO BELOW! It hurts just to look at it.

And this is why I bought and love the TRX.

I only used my TRX for one week before selling it! I know , some will say that may not have been long enough
but I believe a Pinpointer should be a simple device and not so complicated that it takes you as long to familiarize
yourself with it as a new detector does.. It would sound off all over in my ground here which is high in mineralization. and
even sound off while laying on top of the ground...I run a E-trac in area's with lots of Iron next to good targets and trying to
pinpoint the good targets next to the iron was sometimes at best a Guessing game...I sold it and found a Sunray X-1 which
will cure the problem of knowing which target is what in the same hole and bettering my chances of not scraping a Beautiful
coin...That still is a beauty of a coin...One of my favorite's!

The TRX is not for everyone Doug and if you didn't like it, that's fine..... but for others who might read your opinion about it being noisy, it sounds like you just did not allow it to ground balance after turning it on. I only GB my TRX once and it seems to remember the GB setting until I change locations. It is the only handheld that will ground balance and mine is the quietest pinpointer I have ever used, there is also the possibility you might have got a defective unit too

Hi Larry,
The TRX definitely isn't for me,and I probably could have had a bad one as well but I wouldn't have known it if I did.
I do think that if someone wants simplicity in a pinpointer and by that I mean one that is turn on and go! I think
they should get there hands on a TRX and whatever else they are looking at and decide which is best for them...
Unfortunately, I never went that direction.

Enjoyed your review, coondog. Always good to see that I'm not the only fool carrying two pinpointers...:heh:

And that's a good point about coinpopping with the TRX. The TRX at least doubles the depth you can get a spot on pinpoint compared to the Pro Pointer.

Thanks marcomo it took me an hour to peck out that post.

Duggr I hear you buddy, the fact that the instruction manual could not even explain how the TRX is set up is going to piss allot of people off. It clearly did to you and it darn sure is not your fault. It does reflect back on the company when they did not even bother with instructions on such a complicated set up.

What I had to do was go on youtube and find some guys kind enough to make a video of how this brutt works. I kept rewinding it till I got the setting I wanted and then left it alone.

Whites could have gone the whole way with this one with a clear instruction manual or there own YouTube video. Or maybe a website, something for gosh sakes, what the heck where they thinking on that one.

Maybe they do have something somewhere but I do know ,when they took my money they did not mention anything.

All in all it worked out for me and I really like it.

Hats off to you YouTube hams that help out us other guys!

P.S you guys think I could buff out that gouged coin? LOL  ooooow that still stings, it's been about a year since I scratched that beautie. The pain has still not gone away. Maybe to soon for me to laugh about that one.

That's something else we have in common besides carrying two pinpointers.

Like you, I put a gouge in my first Barber dime. Probably the worst I ever did on a "keeper" coin. I've found numerous Barbers since, but that one still would have been my best condition Barber ever...except for the gouge.

I learned a painful lesson and I guess you did too!

I did the same thing Duggr did. The TRX wasn't for me. I had a hard time selling it but finally someone bought it for half of what I paid for.

Your buyer got a great deal. Hopefully you at least got a kiss...

All I have to say is the TRX is awesome. I have used it for a week and I have only had to dig one plug before it located the target, all my other targets I located with the TRX without even putting a shovel in the ground. This thing will definitely find targets 4" plus. I only hint civil war relics so that tells you about how small my targets are. HH Dave.

"there is so much crap to read everywhere" BUT "I will buy a TRX and publish MY unbiased report". Sure.

Tog the TRX is really nice , I suppose its hard to believe cuz the other one whites had seemed kinda cheep but not this one

Doctorcoinz:

Interpreting the experiences and opinions given on these post is like reading the signals on our detectors. If you hear a random tone, inconsistent (opinion), you don't waste your time acting on it. If it is repeatable and consistent (confirmed by others) then its something that is worth acting on.

OK, you guys convinced me. I need to go buy one just to see what it can do. Oops, my wife just walked in and said "What are you buying now"? I guess I should price it first. I told her I was just looking.Lol

$135-$149

$159.95 MSRP and the allowable MAP price is $149.95 but you can check with a local dealer. They tend to sell-out at the MAP price, from my experience, because they are worth it!

I had a AH mini pro, and it could hit a dime at 2". We've come a long way baby!

I just ordered one this morning. Along with a new mx5, eclipse 10x6, and some killer b headphones. Now the dreaded wait.

What can i say. The TRX and the V3I are just the best ! I like to be part of what I'm doing. That is not just turn on and go.

I have been metal detecting for 20 to 25 years and never had any desire whatsoever for a pinpointer. A few weeks back that changed when my brother loaned me his Garrett propointer to use for a week or so, and in my opinion,it was good. Just last week I bought the TRX pinpointer from my local dealer and it is truly outstanding. I usually use it on the 2nd or 3rd setting and if a target is not deep it will beep and point out the target before I even cut the ground. If I misjudge on the original hole and the target is in the wall of the hole, this TRX will tell on it if I point the end at the wall. It saves lots of time in locating the target. I am some kind of tickled with the TRX pinpointer.
