My biggest concern at this point is by the time I get the larger coil and full cup headphones, we are pushing close to $3000 for the average consumer. Way out of reach for many.

Then you dont buy the Deus, its that simple. It was not intended to the mass market, its for the rich and to the guys who want the latest toy, regardless of price.:smoke:

What an elitist snob remark:starwars: Richy Rich gets his hands dirty, or I suppose you hire somebody to do the digging for you. I bet that 99 people out 100 cannot relate to people like you.
So:biteme:

Well i am no means rich, i am more like a guy who wanted the latest toy, regardless of price and i really wanted this detector. I had to work hard to get the money to buy the Deus, the money that i had to acquire to buy this detector simply didnt appear out of thin air.:smoke:

i would tend to agree with this,as the 4 khz frequency is very close to whitey's
"killer" silver frequency of 6.59 khz, which they used on virtually ALL their detectors
starting with the introduction of (v.l.f.) units in '77 8 khz, also should be an excellent
"silver sniffer" as well!..just sayin'

good! your "horse" was retired, and put out to "pasture"
which allows you to be "eminently" qualified, based upon your
experience as a "long time" fellow hunter, and not a "salesman"
with an agenda! by making that statement, you have gained considerable
'wallop" and respect with me,and your field reports will be welcomed by all!
just sayin'

There was nothing snobbish or elitist about the statement, it was truth. Do you really believe the average detector user can afford the cost of the Dues? I know the general population can't afford to drop $2000+ on what is essentially a toy. Most people live paycheck to paycheck, that's not snobbery, it's the facts of life.

Thanks Larry. That's what we need. Good straightforward comparisons of detectors by a very experienced detectorist. Look forward to more of your field tests.

p.s. the battery behavior indicates batteries that never had been charged and need a few charge/discharge cycles to be up to snuff. I could be wrong though.

And along comes the simple beep and dig detector ! LOL:rofl: boys and our toys we are all guilty of wanting to play with the newest.Sniff I can only dream:nopity:

excellent point ! well taken, and the reason WHY this particular
detector requires an in depth evaluation over time by experienced
detectorists to determine IF that 2 "large" is well spent!.just sayin'

I have been running the batteries down and recharging, I'm on my forth cycle and run time is improving with each cycle. Will see how good it gets by Monday. The good news is the repair center was quick with the apologies and offered to get another coil off to me Monday if I still have problems. I will have the 11X13 coil by Wednesday anyway and I am guessing that coil is the one I will be using most for the type of hunting that I do.

Is there anyone out in the Western U.S. with the new-to us-Deus? I wonder how well it works around the Columbia River? I hunt in mainly the southern Cascades of Oregon, but once in awhile I try the parks around Portland.

Black sand would be a good test for the Deus.

Absolutely correct! I bought my E-Trac in 2009. That $1300 was a LOT of cash to drop on a hobby item. I didn't buy it because of sales ads or dealers. I bought it because of other users who bought one and began digging more silver than ever before. It was new, and it was not fully vetted by the detectorists. It was pretty much were the Deus is today. If a number of fellow diggers who I respect come forward and claim it's the best thing since sliced bread then I will buy one too.

FYI, since buying the E-Trac I have been digging 10 times the silver as I ever did in the past. I HOPE the Deus isn't so great, so I won't have to buy a new machine!

when I finished reading Larry's report. There is no magic do it all detector out there, and it's very pricey also......If they ever come up with a machine that will actually see into the ground and give you an actual in ground image.....then by God, I am in.....HH

yes! you echo my sentiments exactly!
with the exception of getting a "loaner"
and using it yourself,(highly unlikely)
it IS the only way! just sayin'

Jason, I beg to differ, most Rich people are Elitist and snobs and money can't buy "Class", just look at Donald Trump, he would'nt recognize class if it walked up to him and punched him in the mouth, which I would love to do.

when ya got dough,ya don't care 2 "craps" about public opinion!
lose ya health though, and all of a sudden money doesn't seem to
count for very much! that "condition" has a way of "evening out the playing field!"
