I Got A Free 1266X With The White Coil HELP!

MarkCZ

Well-known member
And I could use a little help, first!

My brother informs me that people who are looking for these machines wants the ones with the "White Search Coils" what's up with that? Why the white?

Next, the detector seems to work VERY well as far as detecting targets, but!
even with the sensitivity control pulled out (low) and set at half it still has a mild chatter, now if I turn the sensitivity down more toward 0 the noise goes away. is it normal for these detectors to have a low chattering noise while your running them?

If the detector passes the above problem I only have one more problem! (I may need a little advice on getting to the inside of it)
The front panel plate seems to have everything mounted to it, controls, buttons, headphone jack, ect... Well when I pull out the sensitivity control, or unplug the headphones the plate moves out a fair amount at the bottom (maybe 1/8" or so) I don't think it should be like that is it?
If not is there anybody here been inside of one of these that could tell me the jest of getting inside to see about fixing it? the detector housing doesn't look to have any serious damage, yes, it has some light scuffs and a few scratches but nothing that shows any abuse.

My two options right now is to send it to Fisher for a going over!
OR!
Clean both lower inside corners with alcohol,
press and hold the panel in firmly,
lay in a bead of super glue gel just in the corners, hold in place for a few minutes,
let set up for 24 hours, and hope it holds.

Love to hear from you ANY 1266X users, or users of ANY of the models that are made the same way.

I wouldn't s/glue it. I have the 1265X same housing, look where the coil cable attaches to the box there should be 2 small screws next to it , they hold the front plate and circuit board in the box and the SEN. knob is opposite of the1266, yours pulls out for low, mine pulls out for high. Can't believe your getting chatter using that low SEN. might need a going over by Fisher, they still fix them cause I just got my 1265X fixed.Try some good air test use a nickel to test DISC. should cut out after 5. post the findings.

The "White Coil" is the ORG. stock coil that came with the detector, guess they want to keep them stock. I have the white and the Spider coils. The 1265 and 1266 are deep going machines, 1270 goes deeper but 1266 is an awesome machine.

I tried it on my shallow test garden (about 3" deep), the nickel is perfect on disc 2 @ 5 a setting of 6 the nickle is gone!

I have the disc. one set to (3) and disc two set at (5) and I get a lot of targets in my yard in disc one, push the toggle to disc two and they are gone or break up badly. So the disc. circuits seem to be working PERFECT!

How about the onboard charger jack, does it have enough wire to get the board out?

Thanks a bunch for your post!

Yea mine did I just had Fisher replace the headphone Jack, it was busted and had no audio and also sent them a new outer housing to put on for me and they called and told me the 2 controls were bad and out of tolerance so they changed them, they said my White coil was old and should upgrade to the Black Spider coil, I said no have one already.

Okay, what this,
My brother had a 1266X a few years back and it had a stock black coil,
also it had a little push button latch on the battery cover (that kept breaking)

The one I have has a white coil,
and it has a screw knob on the battery cover.

My brother said that he was reading something on the net the other day about either the earlier or later model 1266X had the white coil but he couldn't remember which way it was, but the thing was that he got out of it was that people who are looking for one of these what the ones with the white coil?

Thanks for the post

The coil on mine is a white spider coil, NOT the white closed end coil.

What did Fisher charge for your repair? or did they fix it under the life time warranty?

Mark

Original Fisher Spyder coils were white meaning you have one of the original which were used for only a year or two...so indeed its an old unit...1266 old and new are known for its snap-crackle and pop while rejecting targets and not an easy unit to learn but once learned for years has been of one of the best relic units on the planet..Old or Newer....
As for technical problems call Fisher and talk to a tech and indeed it may need a retune and further work done by a tech...By the way I believe this unit had a limited 5 year warranty to original owner and has expired many years ago so expect to pay for the service and imagine Fisher can give you an estimate when they look at it..Due to its age may not be worth the cost but might have someone buy it from you for parts..Certainly not a tech. but understand their are major internal differences in an old and newer 1266 but not sure when differences were made and involves the circuit board..

The only manual I have for the detector is a downloaded pdf, but on the last page it states the below,

Now I just figured the NEW company "First Texas" wouldn't honor such a warranty.

The manual for my CZ-7a pro states a lifetime warranty,

My Coinstrike manual states a Five year warranty.

Now this kind of stuff is what makes forums like this a GREAT place to hang out!

I'm not going to take it apart just yet, but there is a good chance that that's what will end up happing.
Also, that broken headphone jack is really good information as well!, I'm pretty sure I could replace that my self.
And I'm pretty sure Keith Wills at East Texas detector would have a new replacement jack.

By the time this topic shakes out I'll at lest know most of my options.

My 1270 says the same thing and I argued and sent copies of the warranty on the manual and there ads and they told me that its was only 5 years from the date of sale and they go by the serial # of the unit and they are not lifetime warrantied, I know my Org. Silver Sabre from Tesoro is Life time cause they just fixed it and it about 30 years old now that a good company.

$95.00, There is no warranties left on those older machines and Fisher won't honor the life time warranty post on the manual.

Well I figured as much. Shooter, let me ask you this!
I got the detector USED! and FREE! and that was just a couple of days before I started this post.

The detector is in overall good condition, (except for the face plate being lose)
Everything works, but I figure it could use a tone up and a headphone jack.

The detector was first owned by a dentist, (not used much)
Then he gave it to my neighbor who worked for him.
My neighbor NEVER used it, so its been setting a long time.
I help my neighbor out with his computer and cars and he knew I was into metal detector's and just came over the other day and gave it to me! (pretty cool I thought)

Anyway, With the work that Fisher done on yours would you think that a $100.00 would be well spent on the one I got, I do plan on keeping it, but I would like it RIGHT!

Thanks

For Sure, mine was worth every penny, if you are going to use, I would, they replaced my audio connector cause it was broken and not working I yours works why replace it. Mine had 3 things wrong with it plus they replaced the outer housing and calibrated it. yours might only need ADJ. and Cailb. Here's what they did to mine: Replaced Audio Connector, Replaced Both Controls, Replaced Battery cover, Replaced outer Housing, ADJ and Calib.

Here is a couple pictures of my new addition!

It sounded as good as it looks little brother.

Well, I just plugged in a set of headphones to see if the headphone jack worked, it does, both ears "Passed" When I unplugged the headphones I put a couple of fingers on the face plate to hold it down.

Thanks, my brother had one of these a few years back and really liked it, but I never remember running it. I could get used to the dual discrimination controls.
