Money isn't everything! My wife and I are well off. Sometimes its nice to help others out. The neighbors here are struggling. Their kid doesnt have much to play with! Just seeing his face when he got that detector was worth it!

I salute you !!:please::thumbup:

Got a nice Pm from him..worried that everyone was upset at what he posted....

He is very new to detecting. Bought and got a freebie detector from a sponsor. The one he bought was a bit much for a new guy..so he kept the freebie and sold the minelab...

Now it seemed like the deal of the century for the neighbor but in fact it went to the neighbors son.who thinks detecting is "Nifty"............and it is..

Sounded like a too good to be true story to many, and many posts indicated this.Well it's a true story.................Don't know nutin was just giving back..his neighbor is one of those "dream neighbors" who is always doing something for his fellow man......Snow plowing the driveways, and anything else a good neighbor can help out with.

Did I mention it's a very rural area that the neighbors are all close and look after each other............Sure wish I lived in an area like that..don't you....
anyway things work wise like so many others have experienced have been a little slow for the good guy next door..His boy liked the detectors know nutin bought, and know nutin being in a position of not having money problems decided a little payback was in order for all the good things his neighbor does for all, and it was for a kid.. know nutin kept the detector he liked and they worked out what could work for both on a price with the Minelab...NO Charity involved, every ones dignity is intact..That I understand............so I want to commend know nutin for his actions..Very nice move on your part Sir........and a very nice Pm to me..My hats off to you Sir, and I bet everyone else knowing the whole story will look at it like I did..though for sure it wasn't any of my business if you gave it away.... For my questionable post I feel an apology is in order, and you have it fine Sir...Welcome to the forum..we need more good people like you...I hope you enjoy detecting, and this very fine forum..we have some great people here...I did ask know nutins permission to make this post..The original took on a life of it's own, and like many varied from the intentions....Thanks all for reading.

Well said Elton, I admit that when I first read the post I was in disbelief, and I am happy for what he did. I have read some of know nutin's posts and I was kind of sad to hear that he was giving up on the minelab so quick, I understand giving, I have given countless things away to people who were in need over the years. I am glad for what he did and I hope he has helped a kid find a life long hobby. My only suggestion to know nutin is don't give up on Minelab just yet if you have some more money to burn try the X-Terra 50 or 70 they are easier to use and you will notice a difference. Happy hunting and hope your finds pouch gets full of silver.

I want Don't Know Nutin' to know that I'm not at all upset by his posts, hope he's not upset about mine.

My gut instinct last night told me we were having our collective leg pulled.

If I was wrong it won't be the first time or the last.

I can certainly understand somebody new to the hobby being overwhelmed by a high end detector.

There's just some things that don't add up, more like a combination of things.

I spent a few minutes going through Don't Know's old posts and if he is messing with us he's going through an awful lot to create a backstory.

I found out from Don't Know's 1st post that he got that extra Bounty Hunter for $70 with his Safari, or maybe it was $1 as he said in a later post.

It's easy to get small change confused when you've got 5.5 million in CDs as he said in another post.

I'm not saying that to be a smart aleck, and I'm not saying it's not all true. But the fact that he sent Elton an email saying it's a true story doesn't guarantee it is.

If Don't Know is loaded and sold his unwanted detector for a fraction of its value to make a neighbor's kid happy that was a fine thing to do. The only reason I questioned it was the contradicting statements elsewhere - regretting that the neighbor made him include the headphones in the deal, saying at least he got $200 so it wasn't a total loss, etc. Not comments you'd expect to hear from someone whose motive was to make a child happy.

I'm going to put my cynicism aside and accept this all at face value.

Don't Know Nutin' I hope you'll keep posting on the forum.

I consider myself a novice, but there are a lot of very knowlegeable experts on this forum. If you ask they will help you when you need it.

And I'll remind myself of all the mistakes I've made persuing this hobby before I judge other people's actions.

Glad you're finding a lot of coins with the Bounty Hunter, here's to many more for you.

hi, don't know nutin'. it was a nice gesture to give your a neighbor a good deal for his kid. the 505 is a good machine, just takes some getting used to. i've given away several machines over the years - three white's, two bounty hunters, and a nautilus. i didn't make a red cent on them, either. most of them were used when i acquired them, so it went easy on the pockets. they all went to friends and family. most of the machines i gave away are still being used to this day, and got several others interested in our hobby. i haven't regretted it for a minute. i think that minelab makes a great machine, but they are too heavy for me. now get out there and hit that old farm down the road from you, and let us know how it goes! hh!
