i did not like the news i got today from las vegas

OK Minelab are you listening?

#1 Make the machine with awesome headphones like the Grey Ghosts.
#2 Have the machine with connectors to change phones and coils.
#3 Paint the machine a cool Camo color like this snorkel Pic I attached.
#4 When machines are sent in for repair, Get them back in a timely manor,
not the 2 - 3 months that you do now.
#5 Be nice on the phone, when we call to check on the status of our repair.

Do these things and you would have many loyal customers. Don;t do these and
i'm sure Garrete or White's would be more than happy to have us.

HIRE some more folks. Man I know there are folks out there looking for a job. There is no excuse for this. I have a Excal did mods my self.
I also have a ETrac. But wit stuff like this going on makes you think about your next purchase. Coming soon to my detector closet a shinny
new Whites detector.

Sounds like minelab has joined the other companies in the world. There all thinking the same way. Well look at all the companies that are failing and going under due to that business model. Good thinking minelab follow the rest of the worlds companies down the drain.

Lets get the greedy bean counters out of the engineering department and let the good products sell and make you money in stead of killing quality and customer service to save a penny.

May as well sell Minelab to First Texas

Water machines seem almost an afterthought to most manufacturers. It seems to be a market they don't really care much about. In many ways metal detector manufacturers in general seem less concerned about their customers than other businesses and Minelab is a perfect example. Look at the Excalibur II, new paint on the same old thing and still best in class if you want discrimination. Could not be bothered with even the slightest improvement in Ergonomics. Good enough to sell is good enough. You can only get away with 2 month factory service when you are the only game in town and don't really care what the customer thinks about it.

Not bad enough I want to sell my Excalibur, but sure is irritating how they rub a guy's nose in it like that. Everybody in business needs to care about the bottom line, but I wish they would at least pretend to care about the customer.

Wow, this is sad. I have an EXcal 1000 with the blue head phones and has served me well. I was thinking about upgrading but figured if the electronics was the same why should I. I priced the GC'S and was thinking about changing out the coils since I have been a little ruff on the buff with it. At the same time I wanted to have Mnelab to give it a 100% inspection and make repairs if needed. This would have been alot cheaper than a new purchase. Now I will have to pay shipping to and from for the I/R and when it gets back to me I'll have to pay shipping to and from where ever I can find to do the mods of headphones and coil. That is going to be expenesive from and to Hawaii. May have to purchase a new one, but it will not be MINELAB.

Anyone have the wiring diagram and plugs for the Excal 1000 with the blue headphones?

BOB

Hearing that minelab has so much warrenty work is what worries me. Whats the problem?... they couldnt be fixing the old xs still... and I have only heard of one E trac sent back not working so I wonder what is the most common warrenty work and why? Thats the prob with fourms like this is that facts are hard to get certainty of. Customer service is King especially with a $1500 unit. Say it with me Customer is king... Customer is King...

WOW: I still have a 20? yr old Tesoro Toltec 100 that I will be sending to the company to give it the once over/ tune up and it is going to cost me ZIPPO! A true lifetime warranty! Minelab is digging itself a PR hole with this attitude. Well, looks like it is Mr.Bill for me too! Looks like he is going to have a busy spring.

The silence from Minelab is deafening!! You think they don't follow the posts on this forum? I highly suspect they do and the absence of a courtesy response is just another fine example of how they perceive the value of customer service. Oh well! The Tiger Shark always has looked like a good freshwater machine. Might be time to reconsider previous brand quality and loyalty. Jim

These sorts of discussions always occur on gold prospecting forums - or at least they used to, now those prospectors loyal to Minelab get defensive. Minelab have major servicing issues with every new gold detector that they bring out. All the early model of their 4500s were faulty - the tracking function didn't work, from what I know. They sent letters out to all who purchased them telling them that their unit "might" be faulty, and if so, they can send it in.

Ever since the SD 2000, Minelab have been the top dogs in the game, and don't they know it. I've been turned down by Minelab on every occasion when it comes to service. The catch 22 is that if you're going on a serious gold prospecting trip you pretty much have to use their detectors. At least with water hunters, it's not the same, there are much more options out there.

I know this is a beach detecting forum, I just though I'd answer a few questions that have been raised.

This is so typical of Minelab, especially when it comes to underwater detectors. I'll never forget the response I got from them when I offered several suggestions on improving the Excal. (basically all of the changes that surf pirates make with aftermarket products) I was told by Minelab that they were focussing thier efforts on the mid-range X-Terra series as that's where they felt market share was, underwater detectors like the Excal were too much of a niche market to be troubling themselves with. Terrific, they make one of the best underwater detectors on the market but they don't care about it. Sounds like somebody at corporate has let the bean counters lose, those boys wouldn't know the difference between sensitivity and threshold.:biteme:
Now I'll have to figure out a way to do these modifications by myself on 21 isolated sqare miles in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks Minelab, You're the BEST!:rage:

I can see where they want to make the money from.
I don't have a Minelab water machine but from reading about it on the forums its seems to be a very good and popular detector with lots of water detectorist.
It seems like they want to follow Garrett with the success of the ACE 250.
Maybe for ever half a dozen or more land detectors sold there may be only one or two water hunters.detector sold.
The dollar $ are dancing in front of there eyes and profit to the share holders are where they want them to be.
If there was a change in ownership that would spell change.

OK I have not been on the water forum lately but am today after finding out that Minelab won't do the headphones any longer after sending mine in. One would think that with business being harder to get any work would be a good thing, dollars, dollars, dollars guess they just have to many already. Maybe they are just lining up for a free handout with the government and need to discourage business first. Dan
