well i went & did it i got a golden u max added a clean sweep coil & stuffed it in an otter box ......... 1 water proof unit  im calling it my golden otter cs
& it found 3 rings on its first beach trip 1 is 10 k white gold :hot:
the clean sweep ain`t the deepest coil but its a magnet in 5 short trips i found all of the goodies in the pix out of heavily worked areas
i love this unit :bouncy:
& the weight not to bad ether handles great in the water
p.s the headphones are waterproof too just speakers against plastic then covered in silicone
thanks for looking

Nicely done! What sort of waterproof grommets/stuff did you use to bring the control wire inside, and to bolt the box to the shaft?

i used a cable clam & good old silicone  it dont leek

fresh water Colorado river :detecting:

nice setup there... I always thought using a simple Silver sabre or Compadre would work just as well too. I bet the tones on the Golden make water hunting alot nicer though.... Nice Job!!

i did this once with a compadre but its much better with a silver because of the coil connector
& the clam connector
i love my tones
i have changed the coil on my setup back to the 8 x 9 as the clean sweep was a bit heavy & lacked depth
good coil though i have it for sale in the classifieds
fun coil covers a lot of ground

Around here our lakes are so full of trash... even the old BEAVER TAIL tabs from years ago..... I think using the 7" or 8" coil would work better here in East Texas. Ive seen a couple posts from a guy can't remember his name at the moment but he claims he's taken the control box of a umax unit and hung it from his neck and had good results water hunting this way as well. This would limit your hunting depth though and when I had my Tiger I had best results in chest deep waters where folks jumped off each others shoulders and rough housed more.

HI, which Otterbox did you use? What are the dimensions? I went to the site you gave and didn't see any that looked large enough. Also, where did you get the cable clamp? Thanks Skip

I know you can get the cable clams at West Marine but what I want to know is what type of connector did you use for the headphones ? By the way I think you did a excellent job on putting it together .

p.s make sure you get the clear box
if you should have a leek you can see it right away in a clear box

wildwiz, Thanks for the information. I apologize, but I am still a little confused. You have a cable clam ? on the coil cable(does it need GE Silicone?) and the black thing you showed me on the earphone cable. Why two different kinds? Also, you mentioned waterproofing a set of earphones. Could you explain that again? I appreciate your time and patience. Skip
