I did everything!

Just purchased an Equinox 900 and am looking for some help. It will be used exclusively on the sand on the island I live on. Prior to the Nox I used a very good P.I. detector where I dug everything. Since I'm used to digging everything, what settings would give me the same result? Settings for digging everything without discrimination? Thanks!

I have read that some detect in all metal mode and only use two tones.. low tone for ferrous and high tone for non ferrous.
If wading in salt water use Beach 2 and for dry /wet sand use Beach 1.
That's the settings I'm starting off with when my relic hunting season starts...no beaches though , just woods.

fwcrawford nailed it. Go with his recommendation and you'll do well on AMI although many, like me, have been priced out of vacationing there. It was a great place to metal detect when it affordable.

So do I turn on all metal mode by using the horseshoe button?

Anna Maria is definitely going crazy price wise. Property taxes, insurance, and the government money grab are the main reasons. My electric bill went from $220 to $420 due to FPL rate hike!

Depending on what the "island" beaches are like, I would test the 900 against the PI and more than likely I would stay with the PI. Each environment you detect may change your mind. I detect beaches that I would only use a PI and other only a Multi-Freq water detector.

I use a PI detector in fresh water lakes near me..have been doing it since 2012.
I have made some nice finds with it too!

P.I. wasn't working so I got the 900. After hitting the horseshoe do I ground balance or do that before?
After turning it on, the first thing after choosing the search mode is to noise cancel. The all metal button is not important when it is selected.
Then ground balance, but I just leave mine at zero.
Well… let me add to be in all metal mode before ground balancing to make sure you are on clean ground.

From detecting for many years on AMI beaches with my 800, the sand there is mineral free. All metal (horseshoe ON) in the water and on the wet or dry Sand. Set your GB manually to 0 and go detecting. 0 for dry, wet and in the water. I use 2 tones, Beach 2 in the water and dig everything that isn't giving you an iron tone. I use Beach 1, 5 tones on the dry and wet sand. Good luck.
