I despise these metal detecting shows on TV.

It's nectar not juice and why is it that all of these Digger/dectorist shows find the most annoying people to host them. It's not the holes dug, it's the assinine way the folks act when they find a button. At least the latest show is responsible enough to have some Geologist on site properly marking things for future reference. I have also found most people are not receptive to having their items found once lost unless you are willing to give it all back to them. They would rather it stay buried rather than some backyard geologist with a metal detector find it and dig it up.

We just got banned recently in Pittsburgh pa...check out my post in today's finds forum,I agree these dill weeds are partially to blame along with you tube

Welcome to my world and it suck's! All the people who say the shows and newbees aren't the cause and we ae just pointin' fingers haven't lost any spots yet. When they do they will see what it is all about. And it will come so you guys still diggin' free and easy on public property enjoy it while you can because one day you will pull up to your long time favorite close by spot and see a NO METAL DETECING SIGN.

I agree with those that feel the shows contribute to the problems in the hobby. I've watched Diggers several times and while I realize that a lot of their antics are hype for tv, I find it ridiculous. Not only that, but we know none of us would ever get the chance to detect the locations on the program. I don't watch it any more.

just because we'll never get the chance to hunt that spot doesn't sound like a good reason to not watch the show.

It would appear that the un-scientific poll of this and other forums is that most of us despise that show and don't - will not - maybe if nothing else is on watch it.
So where does that leave us?

I think us veteran and/or ethical detectorists are in a tiny minority compared to the public at large who watch that show some of whom can't spell metal detector.
Those 'public at large' types see that it 'looks' easy finding valuable loot one nectar after another roundness in the hole. PT Barnum comes to mind.

So thousands of diggers inspired Joe public's (many of whom are idiots) buy detectors and shovels then set their eyes on the nearest public park having no clue on how to dig, cut and replace a proper plug. Worse many of the idiots won't even cover their holes and could care less. Seen this myself many times over the years.
Lets face it, this show will be televised until the ratings are in the toilet.
Follow the money!

IMO, the veteran or ethical detectorist supporters of that show are either in blind denial on the future of metal detecting or are somehow affiliated with that show.

my point has been those type hunters were around well before the shows came out and it is no worst now than it was then. the shows are not to blame its the laziness and disrespect that the majority of the people show in all aspects of life.

Chuck I will respect your opinion as in that you have the right to it.
But you are wrong buddy.
Those metal detecting shows have indeed contributed to the wrong crowd getting into detecting. I say wrong as their motives are not pure, and their actions such as one huge hole not filled is devastating to the future of the hobby.

#1) They think they are going to get rich off detecting.
#2) They ( the Digger groupies) are most likely husbands of woman who are kadarshian and Jenner fans. Obnoxious trash sheeple people who consider the world their garbage can. ( Yeah I said that)

Most (not all) of these people who watch and are influence to dive into detecting from these shows feel all high and mighty with their new AT-PRO. They dipped into their family savings account to pay for it behind the wife's back. That AT-PRO ( because that's what the guys on TV use ) MUST make back the price tag AT ALL COSTS! or their wife will body slam them.

It only takes one of these carp lipped looking goons, to dig one damaging hole at a park to destroy the hunting grounds of the more respectful detectorists.

I am amazed how any serious detectorists can not see the connection between this metal detecting show called DIGGERS, and all the recent bans that have happened to many of our stomping grounds for detecting.

The other forum looks at these guys on the shows as hero's? I think they are sell outs ruining the hobby for us longtime hunters who have a true 'passion' for history.

I don't know what other forum you're talking about. I only go to 2 and the other one rarely ever mentions the shows but I wouldn't consider whats said as hero worship. I don't like car racing but I don't complain about it being shown on tv.

Car racing and metal detecting are two totally different animals. Televised car racing whether one likes it or not isn't in jeopardy of being banned. Metal detecting is NOW being banned in public areas around the country. Why all of a sudden in the last few years the bans? IMO, it don't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Well i like to occasional metal detect in public parks but i can see the writing on the wall far as the future of metal detecting specifically in public areas. All you have to do is take a stroll along history lane and look what happened to metal detecting public areas in the UK and other countries. Those metal detecting TV shows and to a lesser extent Utube is accelerating the same thing here in the USA.

To the detectorist supporters of Diggers, enjoy it while you can because thats the only metal detecting you'll see in the future.
All that will be left is private property same as in the UK.

As a drag racer I can say street racing is in the cross hairs along with more rules and regulations on the way for track events because of Street Outlaws and the turds that take it to the streets!

i only know of 2 places around this part of ky. and ind. that are banned and they were banned long before the shows came out. the only places we've lost is the city schools and thats because of a superintident that had fences put around all the schools. no ban on detecting just no way to get in.
