I can't decide on a Tesoro for parks!

If you can get a coin out that is 9" deep with a screwdriver and not do any damage to a lawn, i take my hat off to you. I only use a screwdriver and a pair of pointy nose pliers with the centre ground out to lift coins and about 4" is the maximum depth i work. I have not tested accurately what depth i can get with the standard coil but would be very dissapointed if it did not get a gold coin at 8". Sorry i cant be of more help, killer

You have been great help, cheers.:jump:

It's hard to dig past 4" even with a screwdriver and not cause damage, I agree, you have to round out the hole. I prefer not to either, but there was one place which had loose soil and soft lawn.

Ok, now I want the Tejon, but I can't afford it. At the moment I can only afford the Cibola, not sure how it will handle mineralisation in most of our parks given it doesn't have a ground balance.

Trueblue, do you still use yours for aussie coins? I take it you might have had success with yours?

yeah I sold my Silver , Compadre and Ace 250 and detect exclusivly with the Tejon ....its a pleasure to hunt Oz coin with if mainly after $1 & $2 coins at the disc settings mentioned earlier and with a thorough feel for Tejon and it subtle language you will dig very little if any trash regardless of site conditions and dont worry about the frequency it hits deep & hard on coins . A lot of users say its noisy and cant handle minerlized soil well ...in my expeirience I will say yes its somewhat noisy clicks and farts on iron but Im sure glad it does as it lets you know to slow down be aware of masking and work a site well , If you've got a good set of Phones and the hr's up on the Tejon you will rarely be fooled by iron . as for Gbalance capability of the Tejon I havent found a site I cant hunt and Im sure I hunt some challenging soils as most of my time is spent detecting for old coin in victorian gold bearing soils , the only fault I can find is that it woulda been nice if Tesoro fitted there detectors with 10 turn GB insteada the 3.3/4 used

Yeah, seeing a short GB knob is a bit strange. I used a Bandido uMax 2 a fortnight ago and the GB knob just kept on turning left or right, you could keep turning it and it wouldn't stop.

Personally, if your parks have no open fields, I'd probably just advise you use the Compadre.

If there are open fields, a Silver uMax with the Clean Sweep coil might not be a bad idea,

Firstly, the Eldorado (u Max) replaced the Bandido II.

Second, and I know you have received lots of advice on Tejon, Golden, Vacquero and Compadre, and hunting in parks you would not go wrong with any of these...they would all do the job well... Unless you have really bad ground where you are, the Cibola would do the job, probably just as well as the other machines mentioned. It has not variable ground balance, but it is sensitive to both gold and silver (and everything else in between, and there is an easy setting for the discrimination where you will only pick up with good signals everything from 50c up (Aussie). You will still dig alum. screw caps, but no pull-tabs. The variety of coils available to the Tejon and Vacquero can also be used on the Cibola.....the Cibola, even with pre-set ground balance, can be used at the beach. If you have access to back issues of Gold Gem and Treasure magazine, there is an article on the Cibola in the Nov. 2006 issue. Hope this helps.

I see a lot of replies/recommendations. Although I have a handful of Tesoro's, from what I have, and for parks & coinage, my Cortes utilizing the sum feature would be easy going, although I have a hard time leaving the Compadre in the SUV.

Thanks for all the advice,

I bought a Vaquero. I could only buy second hand, the Tejon was too expensive and the Cibola wasn't available, but even though the Vaquero cost a bit more (had there been a second hand Cibola), at least I get manual GB! Looking forward to it.

Congrats on your purchase of the Vaquero.----The "V" & with its manual gb was a very good choice.

congrats on your purchase, that would have been my choice if I had needed manual ground balance, HH and hope to read about your finds soon.

Thanks to all, I look forward to posting about my finds!

There's still something I'd like to know... because in a way this was two threads in one... what replaced the Eldorado uMax? In other words, what's today's incarnation of the Bandido 2 uMax?
