I am only going to buy one extra coil, what should it be?

If you're referring to the 5"x10"DD 18.75kHz coil and the 6"DD Round 18.75kHz coil, the answer is yes BUT the six inch coil will give you far better target separation in trash laden areas. The six inch coil will be easier to swing all day long and it's WATERPROOF! The other coil is NOT! As previously posted, I've owned the 5"x10" DD 18.75kHz coil and, if I had it to do over again, I would purchase the 6"DD Round 18.75kHz coil, without any reservations whatsoever! Hope that answers your questions.

Hi Senior,

I love my 6" HF coil too!
Along with my stock coil.
What do you think of the 9" 3kHz concentric for my mild soil.
I GB between 40 and 50.

Thanks

Good Hunting

Hi

I have both 5x10 and 6' HF DD coils
I know the 5x10 cannot be submerged but can be used in pouring rain etc - I have done this many times
I have never had the cover of the 5x10 come off
But since I started lot of beach hunting with it I have taped a strip of black electrical tape around the coil cover sealing it onto the coil...this prevents sand getting in
I only have to renew the electrical every few months

IMHO waving a 6" at the beach seems a little futile
I love the 6 for gold prospecting and really trashy spots but the 5x10 works for me as a more versatile coil and covers more ground
good luck with whatever you decide

I hate the 6" Coil so much i returned it. Had most of them now and my favorite is the 10.5 DD MF . 1 drawback is that it is only water resistant. I use the 9" concentric HF for wading. If the 10.5 was waterproof it wold be the perfect coil. JMHO from a newb :rage:

I think I am going to get the 6" HF DD coil because I do tend to hunt a lot of trashy areas. I have no rush, I like to take my time and cover the areas fully.

I think you would really be limiting your success by only buying one extra coil. I have got three and I realize I need two more coils for my 705.

Now I have decided against the 6" coil, I have highly mineralized soil so I will be getting the 5x10 DD HF coil as my main coil and eventually get the 6" HF DD coil.

xlogit3k, the 5x10 DD HF is the one I use the most and I think you'll like it. Seal the edge and the cable/coil junction with silicone and you'll be good to go. Or, you could run it right outta the box and be fine, as long as you don't get it too wet. Remember, your target is found, when using pinpointing, usually, directly under the sticker in front of where the shaft bolts to the coil, and also directly at the front of the coil if you use the "pull the coil towards you" method, or at the rear of the coil if you use the "push away" method. Good luck and have fun with your new coil.

Thanks for the pinpointing tip, the only downside to this coil is the fact that I can't use it underwater. Hopefully if I seal it everywhere maybe it can be submersed a little bit.

Well ... I have heard of some people submersing it, and swinging it through puddles after sealing it, but I wouldn't submerse it myself. Too much of a chance frying it and having to buy another one. Darned things are too expensive to take a chance, but that's just me.

Get this one...covers more ground lol sorry had to do it

Ok guys I ordered the 5x10 HF coil, will this hit on a lot more stuff in tot lots and beaches? Hopefully it will be better than the stock coil because In my area I usually ground balance in the teens. I hope it will have great target separation as well.

Congrats. I'm thinking you'll like it - it's a great coil. Keep us posted and let us know how it works for you.
