I am new to Mine Lab

A lot about it is very poor design and way too expensive for the number of issue. And changing coils is a big production.

Being rather new to the Trac I really don't get it when people say things like this about changing coils on the etrac. I have three coils and never had an issue changing them even before I bought an extra lower. As far as "very poor design" I guess I haven't figured this one out yet either. Yes I'll agree the screen can be tricky in certain light but it can be adjusted which i have done with some success. As far as being too expensive for all the issues there must be a million dumb people like me who have paid the price. I'm very happy with mine. Oh and since were exchanging medical history..... 2001 two crushed vertebra from a 20' fall, heart bypass 2010, bad shoulders, right elbow and wrist from 32 years as a carpenter and a bum right ankle. Retired last year. Key to swinging this heavy kick a$$ Etrac exercise and stay in shape.

OK Duke, Exercise is very hard to do. my back doctor told me no more walking. I can only use a stationary bike for exercise. he told me walking is too much pressure on the back. if I stand longer then a half hour my back gets very stiff. I go to sit down for a couple of minutes and then I am OK. You are a lucky guy with that fall you took

Bad Boy I was the one who fell but that doesn't matter. There are as many different limitations for back patients as there are preferences in detectors. Duke Sorry I thought you were referring to the Etrac since the post before was talking mostly about the Etrac not the CTX. The only opinion I can form about the CTX is from feedback here since I don't own one and never used one.
Same goes for the Deus, But since this forum is the Etrac Forum and the OP seemed like he was talking about purchasing a ML I wasn't trying to convince him otherwise.
But since we're on the subject of the Deus I guess I can add some of my observations.
Completely wireless sounds good as long as you don't have a wireless problem. Coil batt power goes down your done. Since I think the brains are in the coil which is the one thing that receives the most bumps and thumps this could eventually be a concern. Replacing the coils is maybe faster than an ML....all two of them..Limited coils 9" and11" and the cost is crazy expensive. After market coils will probably never happen since the technology is in the coil and XP would have a lockon that at least for a while. Not looking for an argument since some Deus guys are the ones who brought it here to the ML forum. Just some of my observations.
I know ya'll have a great following and a lot of you probably came from ML to begin with. I'm guessing after this I'll hear all kinds of rebut to my comments bragging about how superior the XP is and why my comments are wrong. That's OK everyone has to justify why they bought one. Don't think the Etrac will every go away just like the Explorer still has a deep following.

OK Hunter, sorry for the mix up. As far as putting one machine down and talking good about another, this is why we have this forum, No???????? Words are not going to influence me buying anything. its like Ford and Chevy's. I am a Chevy guy and no one can tell me anything about a Ford that I would go out and buy one. Do you get the picture?? Everyone have fun, this is what metal detecting is for me , Just Fun!!!!!!! and if I am not meal detecting I like to read about it

I was referring to the CTX. The E-trac is an awesome machine! No complaints about it at all.

Hi badboy. You must be thinking about someone else. I didn't have any falling injury.

I have a long list of the issues with the CTX. I'm hoping MineLab is smart and "evolves" the E-trac.

BadBoy, All good here. Didn't mean to imply you or your comments about choosing different detectors. One of the main reasons I enjoy this forum is the fact there is a separate place to discuss individual machines. I wasn't bashing any of them. Matter of fact I'm very interested in the Deus but have concerns about what I commented on. You are spot on about preferences. It's natural to admonish a preference of any kind especially if you own what you are talking about. HH Hunter.

I love my ETrac and never plan on getting rid of it, but my one my hunting buddies has the XP Deus and if the weight of the machine is an issue I was just throwing it out there that there is a very light weight machine out that is a great detector too. Battery life seems excellent on it and you can change the reactitivity on it and make the coil act like a small one so I've been told

I can't comment on the CTX but I do own an eTrac and recently bought an X Terra 705. When I first put the eTrac together, I thought it was very heavy but understand this, I had been swinging an F-75 and Omega 8000 which are 2 of the lightest machines on the market. After using the eTrac for some time now, I have no issues swinging it for hours without fatigue. I do not use a harness and I also have tennis elbow. The Etrac is a very well balanced machine and if you set your shaft length properly, you should not have issues.

I came from Fisher 1266-X to Minelabs, I own and love my Etrac/Sunray X-1 pinpointer installed. I also have a Pro-Pointer pinpointer. If you get glare on your Etrac screen, just turn your body around to different position, 99% of the time that cures it. I retired in 2007 at 57 also. Had 2 total knee joint replacements in 2012, both cataracts replaced in 2013, have twisted spine in two places, huge belly hernia, and also quite frequently get trigger fingers on my right hand (diabetes) I did auto body and frame repair for 46 years. I can now kneel again, but I prefer to bend at the waist to get my targets. For me, there is NO issues with the weight of the Etrac, nor any other wishes or improvements. And the best accessory I ever got for my Etrac and Explorer XS II was the RnB battery packs. I haven't bought any AA batteies all year and have only charged my battery packs twice.....NGE

I have had rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder I swing my detector with so I decided to buy a pro swing harness and it was the best investment I made. Now I swing my e-trac, x-1 probe and 10x12 sef coil with no problem.

I can swing the etrac for hours on end without any fatigue and I am a smaller guy. IMHO it is easier and more balanced than the CTX. I used my buddies and think it is extremely back heavy. The huge back battery is a bad design

Me too and I'm only 5 and a half feet tall with arthritis in both elbow joints. Now I must say that I just purchased an X Terra 705 and really like it's feel and performance.

The question I have to ask, bad boy, is when your doctor says no more standing because it puts too much pressure on your back, and also you say if you stand for 30 minutes your back gets stiff, and in both of those situations you have nothing in your hands, I have to ask, with the added weight of a metal detector in your hands, how are you going to do it? That's not even mentioning the bending and digging every signal at the park, and bending and scooping at the beach.

He should hire a digger and a swinger, just sit and direct where to swing:inlove:
