Hunting with the GT in Pinpoint Mode.

The S-12 is a great coil...had one for my Elite and liked it a lot. For the beach, fields, and woods you can't beat it.

Yeah, I looked at those posts again...it kind of made my head hurt.

I guess there are as many ways to use these machines as there are people who use them. Some are right and some are wrong and some are more wrong than others. But as Art said, if it's WORKING for you, go for it. Or words to that effect...

Figure out how it works.

Figure out what you want.

Figure out how to use it.

Screw the "secret programs and settings".

True, very true. But there is a certain amount to be said also for using the knowledge of others and previous lessons learned as a guide. But in the end, there's no better teacher than first hand experience.

When I found this website, I already had a pretty fair idea of how to work a Sov.
Saw too many things that didn't add up. Knew did not work here. Not practical or just plain bad. Tried everything that didn't cost anything but time. Adopted a loose style that goes with the flow for strategy.
Much good info here, but is often a bit too situational.
Think that keeping an open mind, being observant , and staying flexible is the key....Along with experimenting when in doubt.

Art - This forum seemed to be getting a bad case of cabin fever and with few posts from GT users and others. I thought I would have some fun, and get something going with a little question. It worked. Look at this thread, what a tangled web it is.

I noticed you posted six times. Fever must be better.

In answer to one of your posts:

Ah, if it only would, but I go with it anyway.

Keep :) Don

I also used your Speedtest website. Neat - I have Mediacom cable. and my up/down speeds are about the same as yours. I enjoy your end of post smiley things. Best of any posts I've seen. Is that difficult to set up?

If it aint fun , why do it. Don

Eventually Mike will go back to the beach, Rick will have carpel tunnel syndrome, and I will be nominated for "Official Forum Hog".

got to agree with both of you guys, also Rick and all the others that add to this form this form is one of the best forms i know of. everyone is just so helpful. no one acts like know it alls. sometimes its alittle hard to explain certain problems that we come across . i'm going to bring somethings up at my next club meeting about how some of the oldtimer can help newbies out with the same information i get here rather then just sitting in the corner like the living dead when they could be helping someone like myself learn more about the hobby and making everyone feel part of the club. they wonder why the membership is low when you got some of the best detector people in the world sitting there with their thumbs up their you know what. by far i'm no expert but i can sure give some simple advice to someone just starting out and wanting to get into this wonderful hobby. oh well ill leave this alone till my next meeting.
thanks,

how will you know if your GT is balanced or unbalanced. from what i understand from the manual you need to balance the GT if your hunting gold nuggets but other then that you dont need to balance it. dont know if im right or wrong here.

While my dirt has significant iron that is tough to balance my White's in, the GT balances and tracks so fast that I barely can tell that anything happened. One bob is all it takes. Thats quick.

It's not just for prospecting, but any time you hunt in all metal.

We ain't greedy on info here.
Have seen some forums where they will feed you BS and lots of it.
Don't know how your club is .Suspect some will hand you a line while others will be straight with you.
Be skeptical and check things out for yourself.

HH and sorry about your snow.

The smileys and other stuff at the end of my posts is just my "Signature", which can be set up by going into the "Set Preferences" section at the top of the forum pages and then selecting "Edit Signature". My little detector guy is actually a picture file I have on my ISP provided web space and I inserted it into my signature with the HTML code you can see below. It will work with whatever picture you like, using my example as a template. That's the top line, as you can see. The second line is strictly stuff provided by the forum, so no linking or code needed...just put in the appropriate smiley marker, as you can see in the picture of my signature properties.

No problem. In fact, feel free to use it if you like...the image is still there on the server. Just use either of the first two lines shown below in your sig if you like. The way I got the two sharks to swim together was just to use that line twice, one after the other. You have to test it a time or two until you get it like you want. Whatever you wind up with, it will apply it to all your posts, past and future.

after hours and hours and hours of reading this GT manual. i think i'm begining to understand what their trying to get across, but we'll see after all this snow melts. i think someone mentioned cabin fever well i'm reaching the upper limits. all my detectors which are 2 have a nice coating of armoral, all cables are wrapped perfect, all coils look like brand new, all printouts are in order. thats all i got to say.
