sorry i missed this post but have been keeping odd hours lately.
I believe the disease the rabbits got was "Tularemia", it manifested itself by blisters under the hide and was responsible for major die offs about every 6-10 years or whenever the population peaked, natures way....
Some folks said it could be transferred to humans but i think that was finally disproven.
Yes we ate Rabbit also but only when we had to. There is only one type of critter on earth that can survive on only rabbit meat, Cats! Lynx most specifically. Rabbit meat has good protein but no fat or carbs at all.
