In Reply to your question: "All I know is I am seeing less, and less places to detect for some reason. What do you suppose contributes to some of that "NO Detecting" ?????????????????????"
I recently was invited by a Lady to detect her lawn. A one acre piece of property where according to her Confederate Soldiers camped during the "Recent Unpleasantness" (Civil War).
Her Husband appeared to be unhappy with her inviting me to detect and I asked him if there was an questions that I might be able to answer about my detecting. He replied "I have seen that show (Diggers) and I would prefer that you not detect our property."
I was not able to convince him that I was not an Idiot that screamed, ran amuck, broke limbs off trees etc.
I firmly believe that his seeing one episode of a metal detecting (?) show on television soured him to metal detecting in general and to metal detecting his lawn in particular.
Those shows are going to cost the rest of us dearly in our ability to gain places to detect. I also fear that we will lose the ability to detect in city/county/state parks, playgrounds etc. as politicians respond to complaints from voters about us digging in "Their" parks etc.
In Charleston County of South Carolina it is already illegal to detect in county parks (except 3 beach parks) since we might unearth a relic. State of South Carolina says you need permission of the park manager to detect state parks and if you find a relic you Must go find the manager and show him where the relic is located. You are not allowed to remove a relic from a state park.
Just my 2 zinc pennies worth.
